Multi-Tech Announces Rack MultiArray Systems for LAN Computing and
Communication Services

MOUNDS VIEW, MINNESOTA--May 24, 1993--Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading
manufacturer of data communications equipment headquartered in Mounds
View, Minnesota, announces the rackmount MultiArray Data/Fax
Communications Server. A MultiArray system can provide Local Area Network
(LAN) users with an integrated solution for various network communications
functions, such as data communications with modems or multiplexers, fax
communications, gateway operation, and other network server functions. The
rack-mount MultiArray cabinet, which includes a 20-slot chassis, a
300-watt power supply, cooling fans, slide rails, and one floppy drive
(for loading software) is priced at $1695 (U. S.). MultiArray systems will
be available for shipment in the third quarter of 1993.

"When you need compute power for LAN applications, the convenience and
flexibility of the MultiArray are two very good reasons to consider
Multi-Tech," states Raghu Sharma, President of Multi-Tech Systems Inc. "
The MultiArray is flexibility because its chassis has 20 slots, divided
into eight segments, which can be configured with any combination of our
386SX and 486SX compatible Single Board Computers (SBCs). Properly
equipped MultiArrays can operate on a LAN as data/fax communications
servers, host processors for remote-control, dial-in operations, or IBM
3270/5250 gateways. The design of the system is convenient because the
MultiArray can be mounted in a standard 19-inch rack cabinet, taking up
only seven vertical inches."

The MultiArray is designed specifically for applications that require
multiple processors in a single cabinet. Its chassis features an
eight-segment backplane using ISA-bus architecture. segments have two
slots to accommodate an SBC and NIC each. The eighth is a six-slot segment
to accommodate a communications processor (e.g., an SBC), a NIC, and up to
four Intelligent Serial Interface (ISI) multiport serial cards. The
six-slot segment was designed to serve as a data/fax communications
server, but could be configured as a gateway to IBM's 3270 or 5250
environments by adding the appropriate hardware from Multi-Tech Systems.

Multi-Tech Systems, which reported sales of $81 million for 1992, was
founded in 1970 to manufacture data communications equipment and systems
for the global market of networking product users. The Minnesota-based
company is well-known for its MultiModem line of dial-up communications
products. Multi-Tech's family of products include a complete line of
data/fax modems, MultiMux statistical multiplexers, DSUs, 3270/3780/5250
emulation systems, X.25 PADS/Switches, UNIX serial interfaces,
communications software, LAN/VVAN connectivity products, and most
recently, the MultiModemPCS, a voice/data/fax personal communications
system. These products are sold in over 70 countries through a worldwide
network of distributors, manufacturer's reps, systems integrators,
value-added resellers (VARs) and retailers. Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. can
