IPSWITCH, INC. INTRODUCES PIPER/IP, TCP/IP SOFTWARE FOR DOS AND WINDOWS
THAT USES LESS THAN 1% OF CONVENTIONAL MEMORY

Piper/IP Uses Less Than 6K of Conventional Memory.

--New Product Brings Relief to Users Short on RAM--

(June 1, 1993)--Reading, MA--Ipswitch, Inc. today announced the
availability of Piper/IP, the company's new TCP/IP product for DOS and
Windows. Due to its unique design, Piper/IP can run in DOS protected mode,
above 1 megabyte. Piper/IP uses less than 6K of lower DOS memory, leaving
all of Upper Memory and over 634K of lower DOS memory for DOS, Windows and
applications. No other TCP/IP product leaves users with more free memory.

--Performance--

Piper/IP's runs as fast as the PC hardware allows. Typically, on 386 PCs
Piper/IP exceeds 100 K bytes per second on file transfers. At the high
end, on a fast 486 PC, transferring from a fast Unix disk to a fast local
disk using a high-throughput network interface card, transfer rates exceed
500 K bytes per second. And Piper/IP's limit has not been reached yet, so
as more powerful processors are released, Piper/IP's transfer rate will
continue to increase.

--TCP/IP Utilities--

Piper/IP comes complete with a full suite of TCP/IP utilities for file
transfer, terminal emulation, mail, backup and more. All of the popular
utilities are included, ranging from Telnet, TN3270 and FTP to SMTP mail
and the Berkeley r-utilities.

--LAN Compatibility--

Piper/IP is compatible with all popular networks, including NetWare, VINES,
LAN Manager, LAN Server and Windows for Workgroups. In addition, the
Piper/IP installation program is network-aware.

It recognizes NetWare, VINES, Windows for WorkGroups, LAN Manager and LAN
Server drivers and automatically configures Piper/IP to share the
installed network driver and to run concurrently with the LAN.

Because the full-screen installation program can be run from a network
drive, Piper/IP saves network administrators time. Not only is Piper/IP
compatible with all popular LANs, but it can be installed from the network
onto any LAN workstation. There is no need to wait for floppy drives to
slowly transfer

Not only is the installation much faster from a network drive, but network
administrators can save additional time by not repeatedly copying
utilities to shared network drives. The installation program can be
configured to copy just workstation-specific files.

Piper/IP supports all of the popular driver standards: ODI, NDIS, VINES and
Packet Driver, giving users the freedom to choose any Ethernet, Token Ring
or ARCnet network interface card.

--Third Party Application Support--

Piper/IP Supports a very wide variety of 3rd party products for Windows and
DOS, including databases, X-Windows, terminal emulators and popular
Internet utilities.

Piper/IP supports SQL front-ends from all of the popular distributed
databases, including Oracle, Sybase and Informix. Using these SQL
front-ends, Piper/IP users can off-load all of the data entry and query
tasks from their database host, leaving it free to process database
transactions.

Piper/IP supports popular terminal emulators from many vendors for DEC, HP,
IBM, Data General Prime, Tektronix, Wyse and other terminals.

Piper/IP fully supports Winsock, the new TCP/IP binary standard for Windows
applications. Piper/IP's Winsock Windows DLL supports all
Winsock-compliant applications.

Piper/IP's NetBIOS lets NetBIOS applications run over TCP/IP, even across
IP routers. Because of this, NetBIOS applications that used to be
restricted to local LANs can communicate across larger, routed networks.

Using Piper/IP's NetBIOS, NetBIOS applications can even run over the
Internet and other wide area TCP/IP networks. The remote end does not need
wide area NetBIOS support.

The Ipswitch Developer's Kit lets users write custom Berkeley Sockets
applications for both Piper/IP and Catipult, Ipswitch's NetWare-TCP/IP
gateway. Because the Piper/IP and Catipult application interfaces are
identical, an application developed for one runs without change on both
products.

--TCP/IP Servers--

Piper/lP's Telnet server lets any TCP/IP host Telnet into a Piper/IP PC.
Once connected, users can run programs, execute commands and look at
files. Piper/lP's Telnet server is an invaluable tool for network
administrators. When diagnosing users' configuration, the administrator,
instead of having to walk all the way to a given PC, can Telnet into it,
review the configuration files, and have access to all of the information
needed to solve problems.

The Piper/IP Telnet server is also useful for individual users who can
connect to their PC from home or another office to access important
information.

In addition to setting up a PC as a Telnet server, users can also allow
remote FTP, TFTP, RSH and REXEC access. RSH and REXEC both provide a
quick, easy way to scan a directory or file without having to connect to
the PC via FTP or Telnet. For example, to look at CONFIG.SYS on a Piper/IP
PC from another TCP/IP host, the command is "rsh piperpc type
c:config.sys".

All Piper/IP servers can run concurrently. The client application
automatically invokes the proper server. When the Piper/IP servers are
started from Windows, users can even continue to use their PC while TCP/IP
hosts access it remotely.

Piper/IP's user authorization database (Userauth) prevents unauthorized
access to the Piper/IP PC. Userauth provides encrypted password access for
Telnet, FTP and other Piper/IP servers. Userauth lets users restrict other
users' network access to their PC to specific programs or directories.

--NFS Client and Server--

Piper/IP's NFS client lets users mount NFS drives, edit files and run
programs stored on NFS servers. With Piper/IP's NFS, users can mount NFS
drives and use them in conjunction with DOS and LAN drives. Piper/IP also
includes an NFS server, which lets Unix hosts access a Piper/IP's drives
as NFS volumes.

--Pricing and Availability--

Piper/IP is available now direct from Ipswitch. Priced at $375 per copy,
Piper/IP is also available in a S-pack for $1,195, a 10-pack for $1,995,
20-user site licenses for $150 per user, 50-user site licenses for $125
per user, and 100-user site licenses for $95 per user. Existing
applications can be ported to Piper/IP with the Ipswitch Developer's Kit,
which is available now for 5475.

Piper/IP is Ipswitch's third product, following Catipult, the company's
NetWare to TCP/IP gateway, which was introduced in October of 1991, and
Merq, an NFS client for Novell's LAN WorkPlace for OS/2, which was
introduced in September of 1992.

Piper/IP runs on any personal computer with a 286, 386 or 486 processor
with 1.5 MB or more memory. All Ethernet, Token Ring and ARCnet cards with
an NDIS, ODI, Packet or VINES driver are supported. Piper/IP is compatible
with all popular memory managers, including HIMEM.SYS, EMM386, 386MAX and
QEMM.

Ipswitch, Inc. was founded in September of 1991 to develop and market
software-only networking products such as the Company's flagship product,
the Catipult NetWare-TCP/IP gateway which allows Novell NetWare users to
easily access minicomputers, mainframes and other TCP/IP hosts. Ipswitch
also sells Merq, an NFS client for Novell's LAN WorkPlace for OS/2. The
Company's headquarters are located at 580 Main Street, Reading, MA 01867
and they can be reached at (617) 942-0621, Fax: (617) 942-0823
