OBJECTIVE SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES NEW RELEASE OF SPREADBASE

First Business Analysis Tool For Client/Server Computing Comes To The
Desktop

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, APRIL 5, 1993 -- Objective Software, Inc. today
announced a new release of SpreadBase. SpreadBase is the first business
data analysis tool for client/server computing, enabling flexible analysis
of structured data by utilizing Category-Based Modeling.

Category-based modeling allows users to deal with higher-level groups of
information called "categories," which in turn control the behavior of
individual data elements. SpreadBase users are therefore able to focus on
high-level analysis, and are free from focusing on the management of
row/column details that's required when using a spreadsheet. Key Features

Key features of the new release of SpreadBase include:
* direct relational database access via Brio Technology's
  DataPrism;
* capacity more than tripled -- from 4,000 record range
  to 12,000+;
* support of Apple's Data Access Manager, providing future
  compatibility and support for AppleScript.

SpreadBase and the Client/Server Environment

As client/server environments become more and more widespread, users are
accessing corporate data on relational database servers in order to
support decision making. That information is organized in records as
structured data. SpreadBase lets the user work with those records in a
highly flexible and productive way that traditional or "multi-dimensional"
spreadsheets cannot.

"Business data analysis in client/server computing requires access to
increasing quantities of data on the host database -- access that must
retain the relational structure of the data and permit the user to work
with it intelligently on the desktop," explained Richard Melmon, CEO of
Objective Software. "SpreadBase is uniquely architected to address this
successfully."

Intelligent Data Access

In addition, SpreadBase permits broader data access. SpreadBase now
accesses DataPrism, allowing transfer of data from server database
management systems as Structured Data Objects. These Objects pass not just
data values, but field names and types as well. By maintaining the data's
structure, it can be easily merged with existing models. Importing to a
spreadsheet involves stripping away the imported data's structure,
severing the intelligent data connection between server and client.

Availability

The new release of SpreadBase, version 1.1, will ship in April, 1993.
SpreadBase for Windows is currently in development and will debut in late
1993.

Objective Software

Objective Software was founded in 1988 to deliver advanced business data
analysis tools for client/server computing. Objective Software's
SpreadBase is the first client/server business data analysis tool that
provides flexible analysis of relational data, offering significant
productivity gains to business users. SpreadBase is based on a new
software technology, Category-Based Modeling, which allows users to create
and maintain dynamic data models -- models that are defined and
manipulated at the highest level, by category.
