10 MHz Arbitrary Waveform Board for PC/AT's features WINDOWS Virtual
Instrument

For special analog test signals which cannot be obtained from ordinary
function generators, arbitrary waveform generators combine a high speed
D/A converter, onboard dual-access waveform memory and a digital timebase.
DATEL's PC-420 offers two generator output channels up to 10MHz output
frequency on a plug-in board for IBM-PC/AT and compatible computers. The
Mansfield, MA company is introducing the product for complex waveform
testing in audio and acoustics, machine simulation, control loops, modem
testing, receiver calibration, and biomedical research.

Control Options Are Many!

To achieve low output noise (typically -72dB THD), the PC-420 uses two
fast-settling 12-bit D/A channels sampling up to 40MHz with eight software
selectable output filters. Outputs are +10 Volt maximum amplitude at 50
ohms impedance from rear panel BNC connectors. Amplitude and offset may be
controlled from the WINDOWS "front panel" or by software using separate
gain/offset D/A's. The precision on-board timebase employs a
software-controlled frequency synthesizer or the user's external clock
source. Outputs may be externally gated or synchronized for exact
phase-tracking.

Computer Screen Looks Like an Instrument!

The PC420 is controlled by a "virtual instrument" simulated function
generator (model PC-420 GEN) which runs under Microsoft WINDOWS. Low level
interface is through l/O ports. Waveform data is stored in two
32,768-sample memories and playback may be from a selectable memory offset
index then looped any number of times. This allows storage of multiple
waveforms and non-stop generation. Data may be loaded from an external
disk file (such as previously-recorded A/D data), from a "front panel"
function generator or from a powerful polynomial equation parser.

Part of the Family!

The board measures 4.5" x 13.3" x 0.5" and is powered from the PC bus. The
PC-420 is priced at $1495 with generous quantity discounts. A user's
manual and low-level software disk are included. The PC-420GEN WINDOWS
virtual instrument software is $95 (executables only) or $395 for the
PC-420SRC Visual BASIC and "C" source code. All products are available
from stock to two weeks.
