New CD-ROMs Titles in the Medical Specialty Series from Aries Systems

North Andover MA--March 1, 1993. Aries Systems Corporation of North
Andover, Massachusetts, USA, announces the immediate availability of
additional CD-ROM publications in its Specialty Series of CD-ROM journal
literature reference databases for medical specialists in neurology,
ophthalmology, surgery/anesthesia and pediatrics.

The Specialty Series databases contain journal literature references and
abstracts selected from the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE
database. Each database is tailored to the interests of a particular
medical specialty. The literature references are drawn from approximately
3,500 biomedical journals. The new additions to the Specialty Series join
the previous titles for pathology, radiology, internal medicine,
orthopaedics, cardiology and obstetrics/gynecology.

In the Specialty Series discs, portions of the MEDLINE database are
selected that focus on the publications and knowledge interests of
particular medical specialties. Because only a fraction of the MEDLINE
database is selected for each Specialty Series disc, several years of
literature references can be placed on a single disc. Content selection is
typically based on particular journals, and may include additional
selections based on MeSH (Medical Subject Heading) indexing terms that
relate to the specialty. With Aries' proprietary database compression
software, up to a half million or more references and abstracts can be
stored on a single CD-ROM disc.

Specialty Series databases are published as two disc sets. One disc
contains a multi-year archive for the specialty, which is updated
annually. The second disc contains the entire MEDLINE database for the
current calendar year, which can be updated quarterly or monthly. This
format provides both in-depth coverage of the specialty, as well as
comprehensive coverage of the current medical literature. Subscriptions
are available for both the two disc set, and for the single archive discs
by themselves.

The NeuroLine database for neurologists includes 340,000 MEDLINE citations
and abstracts from over 200 neurology-related journals over the past 10
full years. These journals and their references provide coverage of
clinical and research developments in brain research,
electronencephalography, neurochemistry, neurology, neuropathology,
neurosurgery and pediatric neurology.

The OphthaLine database for ophthalmology specialists draws on all
materials from the past 10 full years, from more than 100
ophthalmology-related journals, and also includes selected citations from
all 3,500 journals in MEDLINE based upon a comprehensive MeSH subject term
search strategy. The resulting collection of citations covers a broad
range of ophthalmology sub-specialties, including diabetes care and
research, eye research, neuro-ophthalmology, ophthalmic genetics,
ophthalmic research, pediatric ophthalmology, plastic and reconstructive
surgery, and vision science.

The SurgAnLine database for surgery and anesthesia, containing 540,000
MEDLINE citations and abstracts from over 200 surgery/anesthesia-related
journals over the past 10 full years, also includes surgery articles from
all other journals in MEDLINE. These journals and their references provide
coverage of clinical and research developments in anesthesia,
cardiovascular surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, surgical
oncology, thoracic surgery, transplantation and vascular surgery.

For pediatric specialists, the PediLine database is drawn from 165
pediatrics-related journals in MEDLINE, and includes over 250,000
references and abstracts. Database topics include adolescent health care,
child psychology, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, nutrition,
pediatric neurology, and perinatology.

All of the Specialty Series CD-ROMs are searched using Aries' Knowledge
Finder fuzzy logic search-and-retrieval software for personal computers,
including the IBM PC and compatibles and the Apple Macintosh. Knowledge
Finder uses an innovative and easy-to-use interface, where the user
requests information using English-style phrases or sentences. Search
results are presented in order of likely relevance.

Annual subscriptions to Specialty Series databases start at $395 for
individuals for the archive CD-ROM's. Quarterly updated subscriptions
start at $695. Subscriptions include quarterly or monthly updates of the
CD-ROM discs, the Knowledge Finder search software, documentation, and
full technical support.
