Pioneer Software to Develop Native 32-Bit Versions of Q+E Products for
IBM's Database 2 for OS/2 and DDCS/2

RALEIGH, N.C. -- January 26, 1993 -- Pioneer Software, creators of the Q+E
line of database access products for Windows and OS/2*, has agreed to
support two new products from IBM, Database 2 for OS/2 (DB2/2), Version 2,
and Distributed Database Connections Services/2, Version 2 (DDCS/2 V2). In
addition, Pioneer Software will become a beta test site for the products.

"DB2 is already one of the premier client server technologies in the
corporate world, and we've provided support for the earlier versions for
some time now," noted Richard Holcomb, president of Pioneer Software. "But
there's a growing demand for database access to OS/2's 32-bit
architecture, and we intend to provide that support in our new products.
"

With Pioneer Software products, users and developers have direct access to
a wide range of different database structures. The company's Q+E products
currently support over 20 major database systems, including AS/400,
SQL/400, Btrieve, dBASE, DB2, Excel, INGRES, NetWare SQL, Oracle, OS/2
DBM, Paradox, Sybase, SQLBase, SQL/DS, SQL Server, Tandem NonStop SQL,
ASCII text and XDB files. The company has also announced plans to support
emerging industry-wide database standards, such as ODBC and IDAPI.

Since 1988, Pioneer Software has shipped over three million copies of
Windows and OS/2 database access products for endusers and developers. The
company's products include:

* Q+E Database Editor (Q+E), a query and reporting tool that simplifies
access to database information from Windows or OS/2. Q+E's intuitive
point-and-click interface makes it possible for anyone to access data
residing on PCs, LANS, minicomputers or mainframe computers. Q+E provides
the power and precision of Structured Query Language (SQL) but does not
require knowledge of SQL or any other database language.

* Q+E Database Library, a common, call-level, interface implemented as a
set of Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs) that provides multi-database
connectivity for any development tool capable of calling a DLL.

* Q+E MultiLink/VB, a client server tool for Microsoft's Visual Basic. Q+E
MultiLink/VB links Visual Basic to more than 20 PC and SQL database
systems. It is the fastest way to build database applications--even from
multiple formats.

* Q+E Database/VB, a complete multi-user database designed specifically for
Microsoft Visual Basic. Q+E Database/VB adds a set of database custom
controls to the Visual Basic toolbar. These controls reduce the amount of
Visual Basic code required to develop Visual Basic database applications.

* Q+E DataLink/OV, a set of self-registering Functions developed
specifically for Borland's ObjectVision to provide additional database
access to the ObjectVision product line.

In addition to being the leading provider of database access technology
through its retail Q+E product line, Pioneer Software also is the main OEM
supplier of database access technology to the computer software industry.
The company has licensed its technology to Microsoft, Computer Associates,
WordPerfect, IBM, Intersolv, Asymetrix, Olivetti, Delrina and most other
commercial software developers.

IBM is in the business of helping people solve problems through the use of
advanced information technologies. IBM creates values by offering products
and services that help customers succeed. These offerings include
services, software, systems, products and technologies.
