DPT Unveils SCSI Chipset

"Spectre SCSI" Introduces Design, Performance and Cost Breakthroughs

Maitland, Florida (3/22/93) - Distributed Processing Technology (DPT),
maker of high performance Small Computer Systems Interface (SCSI) host
adapters, today announced it has developed a SCSI chipset for the Industry
Standard Architecture (ISA) and the Extended Industry Standard
Architecture (EISA). DPT's Spectre SCSI chipset introduces significant
design, performance and cost breakthroughs for PC platform vendors and
system integrators.

Although other manufacturers are offering SCSI chip implementations, the
new DPT component will be the first SCSI chipset to provide 100 percent
compatibility with existing DPT software drivers and board-level
products.

"This is the first time a manufacturer has been able to offer a SCSI chip
with built-in driver support already in place," explains DPT President
Steve Goldman. "No special driver modification or installation is
necessary because certified DPT SCSI drivers are already included in the
latest releases of all major operating systems."

Unlike single-chip implementations, the DPT Spectre chipset features a
flexible design that supports a variety of host bus, SCSI protocol,
caching and microprocessor options.

These options enable each platform vendor to custom design
motherboard-based SCSI implementations for desktop and small server class
systems.

"Spectre's flexibility provides a unique level of customization that will
help our PC platform customers add product differentiation and value to
their final products," says Jim Habuda, DPT's vice president of OEM
sales.

Additionally, the Spectre chipset includes its own on-board 32-bit
processor so it does not steal CPU power from a computer's main CPU like
other SCSI chip implementations. Instead, the Spectre's design completely
offloads the host processor, thereby increasing overall system
performance.

Spectre chipset pricing is under $50 and DPT anticipates a number of OEMs
will incorporate the chipset, which will be available mid-1993.
Announcements of OEM agreements are forthcoming.

DPT has been a major force in SCSI technology since its inception. A
founding member of the ANSI SCSI Committee, DPT was one of the first
companies in the world to develop SCSI products, including the
award-winning SmartCache Plus SCSI host adapter.

Founded in 1977, DFI is a privately held company based near Orlando,
Florida, with European sales offices in Milton Keynes, England, and
Penzberg, Germany, and a government sales office in Annapolis, Maryland.
