MICRO EXPRESS MATES VESA LOCAL BUS WITH EISA FOR HIGH-END USERS

Santa Ana, CA..Micro Express debuts a powerful PC designed for use as a
high-end graphics or engineering workstation, but with EISA features for
multi-user applications. Called the ME 486-VE/66, this computer mates EISA
with VESA-standard local bus, and includes a VESA/local bus video card for
high-performance graphics. Running at 66-MHz, and including 8-MB of RAM, a
300-MB hard disk drive with an EISA/caching SCSI controller, a
high-performance color monitor, a mouse, both 5-1/4" and 3-1/2"
high-density floppy disk drives, DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.1, this computer
sells for a very reasonable $3250.

This machine uses a Micro Express motherboard that can hold up to 128-MB of
RAM, packaged in SIMM modules. Using an Intel i486DX2-66 cpu, this PC gets
extra performance through the use of 256K of direct-mapped, write-back
cache RAM and zero wait-state operation. Although the cpu includes a math
coprocessor, an additional socket is provided if a Weitek 4167 math
coprocessor is also desired. The high-performance hard disk drive is
enhanced through the use of a caching EISA SCSI disk controller with 4-MB
of on-board cache memory.

For system expansion, the motherboard contains two VESA-standard local bus
slots, two 32-bit EISA slots, and 4 additional 16-bit full-size ISA slots.
Three DMA (direct memory access) channels are provided for 16-bit DMA
transfer, and four DMA channels are provided for 8-bit DMA transfer.

The machine offers a fully-featured AMI BIOS with password protection and
selectable shadowing of both the system and video BIOS. A CMOS
clock-calendar, with a rechargeable battery is included, as are built-in
diagnostics. Standard ports are 1 parallel and 2 serial.

A Tseng Labs ET4000 VGA chip is featured on the VESA Local Bus video card.
This extremely high-performance video card supports a 72-Hz vertical
refresh rate up to a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Hi-color graphics,
with 32,768 available colors is provided up to a resolution of 800 x 600.
And True-color graphics, with 16.7 million simultaneous colors is
available at resolutions up to 640 x 480.

The ME 486-VE/66 features the new Micro Express FM-360 14" Super VGA Color
Monitor. With its 0.28-mm dot pitch and 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, this
monitor provides a picture clarity rarely seen on PCs.

This PC is packaged in a compact desktop case, measuring 6.5"[H] x 14.5"[W]
x 16.5"[D] that contains a 230-W power supply. The standard case allows
for five drive bays, four externally accessed and one internal. If
desired, the ME 486-VE/66 can be provided in a super tower case, with room
for up to 8 disk drives and a 375-W power supply. A standard 101 type
enhanced keyboard with or without audible feedback is offered...or a
programmable keyboard can be substituted for just $75.
