INTEX INTRODUCES THE FIRST FORECASTING ADD-IN FOR EXCEL

Popular Enhancement Now Available For All Spreadsheets

February 2, 1993 -- Needham. MA: Intex Solutions, Inc., the leading
publisher and reseller of spreadsheet enhancements, today released a new
version of its Forecast! add-in designed specifically for Excel
spreadsheet users. The award-winning forecasting enhancement, which turns
users' spreadsheets into a complete forecasting system, is designed for
anyone who needs to forecast and wants the convenience and benefits of
their favorite spreadsheet program.

"Forecast! has long been one of our best-selling programs for all versions
of Lotus 1-2-3, including Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS and Windows. Over the past
year, as more and more of our customers have moved towards the Windows
environment, we have experienced tremendous demand for an Excel version of
Forecast!. We have answered this demand with this new version of Forecast!
for Excel, designed with the same rich functionality and easy-to-use
features of our previous versions," said Marjorie Smith, Product Manager
at Intex.

Smith added that forecasting in general is one of the most common
applications among spreadsheet users, and Forecast! in particular has been
so popular because it's fast, easy to use and flexible. "Forecast! allows
all spreadsheet users -- regardless of their type of business or the level
of their forecasting skill -- to turn their raw spreadsheet data into
highly accurate forecasts in just seconds."

Powerful Features in a Familiar Environment

Whether users want to forecast sales, expenses, or any of thousands of
other applications, Forecast! gives them the power to make important
decisions faster and with more confidence than ever before.

Forecast! includes three categories of analytical techniques: time-series
analysis, multiple regression and statistical analysis; the latter two
methods are usually found only in high-end forecasting programs. Within
each category, Forecast! users may choose the most appropriate forecasting
model, including linear, exponential, hyperbolic or S-curve trends,
exponential smoothing, single or Brown's decomposition analysis and moving
averages. Advanced features, like seasonal adjustments and confidence
intervals, add greater accuracy and reliability. At all times, the
program's automatically-generated diagnostics and graphics keep users in
control and make it easy to determine the optimal model.

One longtime user of Forecast! who appreciates the program's modeling
capabilities is Mitch Jones, Power Optimization Engineer for Amoco
Pipeline Company. Mr. Jones uses Forecast! to generate volume and cost
projections in preparation of a $25 million annual power budget for 75
different pipelines. Volume and power are exponentially related, while
power and cost are linearly related. "An accurate forecast is essential to
budgeting and control of power costs, and Forecast! provides an easy
solution for obtaining quick results," says Mr. Jones. "I just enter
volumes of oil pumped, energy used and the costs, while Forecast! does the
math. The graphics are excellent, illustrating the actual data points, as
well as the regression curve. In addition, the degree of accuracy of the
forecast is clearly indicated from the many model summary statistics and
correlation factors in the program, so I know which pipeline segments have
optimizing potential and which pipeline power budgets need further
study."

Besides being a powerful forecasting tool, Forecast! provides an added
benefit to Excel and other spreadsheet users by fitting effortlessly into
their spreadsheet environment. Forecast! offers users familiar
spreadsheet-like menus, an easy way to import information from existing
worksheets and also allows them to use Excel's builtin spreadsheet
publishing features to create presentation-quality forecasts and reports.
Users can combine their graphs and statistics on one page, change fonts,
and lines, bolding or shading, making their forecasting results more
persuasive, easier to understand and easier to analyze.
