SSI LAUNCHES FIRST GREAT NAVAL BATTLES EXPANSION DISK INTRODUCING SUPER
SHIPS OF THE ATLANTIC

Game Category: Combat Simulator Expansion Disk
Versions: IBM PC (January '93) - $29.95

Sunnyvale, CA -- January 4, 1993 -- Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI) blows
Great Naval Battles players out of the water with its first expansion disk
for the game, Super Ships of the Atlantic. The disk adds nine new "fantasy
ships" never before launched in Great Naval Battles: North Atlantic 1939
-1943 to add greater firepower to the critically-acclaimed World War II
surface battleship combat simulator. These ships are stronger, meaner,
have heavier armament, and add more tactical depth to Great Naval Battles
than ever before. The expansion disk is available for $29.95 SRP.

Introduced as a tribute to the "What if?" possibilities of World War II,
the new battleship, cruiser, and destroyer ship types were either
incomplete during WW II, or were never actually built. By incorporating
the new ships, Super Ships of the Atlantic assumes WW II took place
several years later than it did. Thus, the game simulates theoretical
combat that has never before been attempted on a personal computer.

Players can control any of the new ships playing as either Great Britain or
Germany. The British additions include the Lion battleship, the Vanguard
battleship, the Swift Sure cruiser, the Bellona cruiser, and the Battle
Class destroyer. Germany's fleet is beefed up with the P-Class ("pocket")
battleship, the M-Class motor kreuzer, the Z 1940-Class destroyer, and the
dreaded H-Class super battleship. Digitized and re-touched photos of
actual ships and models depict the new ships with incredible attention to
detail. Since some of these ships were never actually constructed, this
intriguing visual display is a WW II history buff's dream come true.

Taking advantage of the new ships are one new hypothetical campaign and two
new hypothetical operations, which mix new and old ships in the deadliest
scenarios ever. Operations span days or weeks, and the campaign takes
months or years to complete in game time. Additionally, ten new
hypothetical battle engagements pit new and old ships together in
pre-determined combat situations. Players who purchase the Scenario
Builder Expansion Disk can also create their own scenarios based on the
American ships, further enhancing game-play potential.

"SSI remains committed to supporting its top software currently on the
market. Great Naval Battles is a breakthrough in World War II combat
simulators, and Super Ships enhances the experience by going beyond the
confines of the ships in the base game. The increased play value of the
fantasy ships is well worth the affordable price," stated Kathleen Watson,
SSI Director of Marketing.

The second Great Naval Battles expansion disk, America in the Atlantic,
detours nine U.S. ship types that engaged the Japanese in the Pacific
during World War II to instead encounter the Germans in the Atlantic. A
new set of hypothetical scenarios tests these ships in combat. America in
the Atlantic is also due in February for a $29.95 SRP.

The third and final installment in the Great Naval Battles expansion disk
series, Scenario Builder, enables players to create their own naval
battles using the arsenal of ships acquired from the base game and the
expansion disks. Scenario Builder also offers a role-playing Captain's
Campaign that advances the player through the command ranks from a lowly
Destroyer Captain to the esteemed Task Force Commander. Scenario Builder
will ship this March for a $39.95 SRP.

Now available at retail for $69.95 SRP, Great Naval Battles: North Atlantic
1939 -1943 is a graphically superior World War II simulator of surface
battleship combat in the North Atlantic. Critically acclaimed by major
publications such as Computer Game Review and CD-ROM Entertainment the
game features strategic battles in which players assume command of the
British or German naval forces, realistic visuals of explosions and gun
fire, multiple scenarios, and three levels of play.
