Discover new drugs with Chem-X

Chemical Design is pleased to announce that an exciting new drug discovery
tool is now available, known as pharmacophore identification. This
technique is valuable to medicinal chemists in the pharmaceutical industry
because it allows a more rational approach to the search for new drugs
instead of exhaustive testing of 10,000's of molecules.

Starting from a set of active molecules, the software identifies the key
atoms or groups responsible for activity and their required geometric
arrangement. This pharmacophore can then be used to select compounds from
3D databases for testing. "The computer takes only minutes to identify all
possible pharmacophores when processing activity data from hundreds of
compounds", commented Keith Davies, Technical Director of Chemical Design,
"using traditional molecular modeling programs, specialists could take a
week to find a single pharmacophore for only 10 compounds".

Chemical Design is a pioneer of 3D database searching technology. Its 3D
searching software part of the Chem-X software was first introduced under
three years ago and is now used by major pharmaceuticals. The degree of
automation in the software allows chemists with little training to use it
and it is available on PCs, Macintosh IIs, UNIX workstations and VAX
computers.
