Apple Announces New StyleWriter II Personal Printer and GrayShare Printer
Software

SAN FRANCISCO, California--January 6, 1993 -- Apple Computer, Inc. today
introduced the Apple StyleWriter II personal printer, a new version of its
best-selling Apple StyleWriter significantly redesigned to give users new
features that enhance print quality, performance, and convenience. These
features include GrayShare software, an improved industrial design and
versatile paper-handling capabilities.

The StyleWriter II offers 360 dots-per-inch (dpi) laser-quality printing, a
compact size, and a competitive price. In addition, it is twice as fast as
the original StyleWriter and ships with Apple's new GrayShare printer
software. GrayShare provides enhanced grayscale printing and the ability
to share individual printers from Apple, like the StyleWriter II, over a
network. The StyleWriter II has a suggested retail price of $359 in the
United States, and is available immediately worldwide.

"We expect the StyleWriter II to be a big hit with Macintosh users in
homes, schools and small businesses where good value is more important
than ever," said John Moon, Apple's vice president of Imaging Products.
"Its affordable price and high-quality output will convert scores of new
customers to the benefits of laser-quality printing."

GrayShare Software GrayShare is new printer software that gives the
StyleWriter II advanced grayscale printing capabilities and also allows it
to be shared among users over an AppleTalk TokenTalk or EtherTalk network.
With GrayShare, the StyleWriter II can print more than 100 shades of
gray-- adding a more realistic quality to monochrome images, something
previously achieved only on more expensive and sophisticated laser
printers. GrayShare also allows the StyleWriter II to print twice as fast
as the original StyleWriter -- up to two-pages-per-minute. And users can
take advantage of background printing, a capability that lets them
continue working on their computer as soon as a document is sent to be
printed.

The StyleWriter II features 360 dpi resolution -- the best laser quality
available among ink jet printers. It also includes 39 scalable TrueType
fonts, offering users the flexibility to print high-quality text in a wide
range of styles and sizes.

Improved Design

The StyleWriter II has the small footprint as the original -- about half
the size of competing models -- but in a significantly redesigned case. An
all-in-one design combines the sheet feeder, print engine and power
supply. This compact, sturdy and reliable printer fits easily on the
desktop, making it convenient for customers such as home users, students
or small business users, who have limited work space.

More Versatile Paper Handling

The new StyleWriter II design also allows more versatile paper handling.
The paper tray capacity has been doubled to accommodate up to 100 sheets
of paper -- including legal size -- and it can hold and print up to 15
envelopes automatically.

System Requirements, Pricing and Availability

The StyleWriter II personal printer requires System 6.0.7 (with TrueType
software extension) or any version of System 7. It ships with GrayShare
software and is compatible with any Macintosh computer that has 1MB or RAM
and hard drive. For best performance, Apple recommends using at least 2MB
of RAM when running System 6.0.7 and at last 4MB of RAM when running
System 7 or greater. The StyleWriter II carries a U.S. suggested retail
price of $359. It is currently available worldwide through authorized
Apple resellers. Pricing may vary outside the United States.
