CAERE'S ANYPAGE TECHNOLOGY ENHANCES RECOGNITION ON APPLE'S NEW COLOR
ONESCANNER

LOS GATOS, Calif., January 6, 1993 -- Caere Corporation today announced
that its proprietary AnyPage technology, a feature of its market leading
OCR software programs OmniPage Professional and OmniPage Direct, supports
the new Apple Color OneScanner on the Macintosh platform.

AnyPage technology provides significantly enhanced recognition capabilities
for a wide variety of poor-quality documents. It dramatically improves
recognition accuracy on documents with multiple shaded backgrounds, from a
colored side bar to a coffee stain on a business letter, scanned with the
Apple Color OneScanner.

AnyPage technology automatically varies which shade of gray will be
considered "background" and which will be considered "type. " Through
dynamic auto thresholding, AnyPage senses the optimum level over thousands
of regions per page. The remaining levels are dropped out, leaving the
image very clean and sharp.

"With AnyPage technology, Apple Color OneScanner users will experience
significantly increased accuracy over a wider range of documents,"
commented Teri Roche, Caere's OmniPage product manager.

Caere is offering a free trial version of OmniPage Professional and
OmniPage Direct for the Macintosh, and Image Assistant - Caere's new color
image editing software, with every Apple Color OneScanner. The demo disks
can be ordered through an 800# provided on Caere literature that is
shipped with each scanner.

The suggested retail price for OmniPage Professional is $995 and OmniPage
Direct is $595. Both products are available from Caere's worldwide network
of personal computer resellers.

Caere Corporation, with U.S. headquarters in Los Gatos, Calif. and European
