ENHANCED 88MB REMOVABLE CARTRIDGE SUBSYSTEMS FOR PCs NOW OFFER READ AND
WRITE CAPABILITIES FOR BOTH 88MB AND 44MB CARTRIDGES

BOCA RATON, FL. -- (January 6, 1993) -- SyDOS, a division of SyQuest
Technology, has introduced the SyDOS 88 extra, an enhanced version of its
popular high performance, removable cartridge 88MB disk drive subsystem,
available in internal and external configurations. The SyDOS 88 extra
product is a new addition to a SyDOS family of drives called the SyDOS 88
Series.

The data storage subsystem, based on proven SyQuest removable media
Winchester technology, now has the ability to read and write to either
44MB or 88MB cartridges, a breakthrough in compatibility. Previously, the
SyDOS 88MB drive could only read data from a 44MB cartridge, while
offering read and write capability with 88MB cartridges.

The expanded compatibility was achieved with new microcode and circuits
designed with Large Scale Integration (LSI) technology. The enhanced
drive's performance level, known in the industry as the highest for any
removable media subsystems product on the market, remains virtually the
same. Average seek times are 20 ms, while effective access times can be as
low as 9 ms. MTBF has been boosted to 80,000 power-on hours.

SyDOS 88 extra enhanced internal and external products join the SyDOS
family of removable cartridge subsystems as the next breakthrough in
removable Winchester technology. With an installed base of over 800,000
SyQuest removable cartridge disk drives-- many using 44MB cartridges --
the company developed the enhancement in response to those users' needs
for increased storage capacity without giving up access to their libraries
of current work files on 44MB cartridges.

According to Linda Haury, SyDOS vice president of marketing, current 44 MB
SyQuest users will be able to move up to an enhanced, larger capacity, and
higher performance drive without giving up access to or their investment
in 44MB cartridges."

"As technology changes, users have gotten used to the idea of planned
obsolescence," Haury notes. "That's what makes this announcement unique.
We're offering an opportunity for users to grow their systems without
tossing out everything they've been using. By expanding compatibility, we
are announcing our commitment to our high capacity, high performance
5.25-inch products, and to our current customers who use them."

SyDOS is offering a special UPGRADE PROGRAM for customers with existing
SyDOS 44MB or 88MB drives who want to purchase an 88extra drive. Customers
can upgrade their existing 88MB product to an 88extra, whether in- or
out-of-warranty, for a nominal fee directly through SyDOS. These customers
should call SyDOS at 1-800 43SYDOS (1-800-437-8367) for more information.

Customers with 44MB product wanting to purchase an 88extra have two
options. Firstly, SyDOS 88extras can be purchased by special order through
SyDOS authorized resellers, computer superstores and direct mail order
houses such as CompUSA, CompuAdd,. Ingram Micro D, Merisel and Multiple
Zone. Or, secondly, SyDOS will also sell this enhanced product direct for
a limited time through SyDOS's toll free number 1-800-43-SyDOS.

The program offers 44MB owners the choice of purchasing a SyDOS 88 extra
drive from an authorized reseller in their area or buying a drive direct
from SyDOS. However, to promote upgrade sales through the channel,
authorized resellers will be able to offer the drives at a marginally
lower price than product purchased directly from SyDOS.

The Association of Imaging Service Bureaus (AISB) members and PC User
Groups may purchase the SyDOS 88 extra products directly from SyDOS for a
special promotional price. Eligible customers should call SyDOS direct at
the toll free number.

As with the other SyDOS 88 products, the enhanced subsystem permits users
to upgrade the data storage capabilities of any XT, AT or compatible
running graphics, database, imaging or other data-intensive applications.
They co-reside with ST-412 or ESDI fixed disk drives and controllers and
are based on the same fixed disk Winchester technologies widely used in
all advanced personal computers and workstations.

In addition to the rapid growth in multimedia applications, for which
removable storage is ideal, the SyDOS subsystems are increasingly used for
high-speed file backup and restore operations in conjunction with fixed
disk drives. In applications where security, confidentiality and privacy
are key issues, removable media is indispensable.

The SyDOS 88 extra internal and external product is an addition to a full
line of removable cartridge disk drives, host bust adapter kits, and a new
CD-ROM product offered by SyDOS. The Personal CD is a compact CD-ROM
product that plugs directly into the parallel port of virtually any DOS or
Windows-based desktop, laptop or notebook computer. The Personal CD
features stereo sound capability, an integrated parallel port adapter that
allows the printer to share the port simultaneously, and a carries a one
year warranty.

The new PUMA external subsystems are available in 44MB and 88MB capacities,
and feature a dedicated parallel port adapter and self-contained power
supply for easy set-up and easy use. These drives, like all SyDOS
products, incorporate standard Winchester hard disk technology to offer
the same high performance as fixed hard drives, but also deliver the
benefits of removability at a very low price.

SyDOS product lines also include the SyDOS 44 Series, and the SyDOS 88
Series. These removable cartridge subsystems are available in 44MB and
88MB capacities respectively and come complete with a Host Bus Adapter,
Windows-like installation software, cables, and manuals for easy set-up.
Drives can be purchased separately without Host Bus Adapters as custom
products, or as a complete "one box" solution called a "Value Pack." Host
Bus Adapter Kits are available in a selection of options: a Micro Channel
Kit, a Parallel Port Kit, a high Performance 16-bit Kit or an Enhanced
Performance 16-Bit Kit, as well as a Standard 8-Bit Kit.

SyDOS removable cartridge disk drives offer a two-year warranty on the
SyDOS disk drive and a five-year warranty on the SyQuest cartridge,
setting the industry standard in warranty protection. Product begins to
ship the last week in January 1993.

SyDOS, which began operations in June 1991, is headquartered in Boca Raton,
Florida, and is a division of SyQuest Technology, headquartered in
Fremont, California SyQuest, founded in 1982, commands over 90 percent of
the removable hard-cartridge disk drive marketplace. SyQuest (SYQT) is
publicly traded on NASDAQ's National Market System.
