MULTI-TECH SYSTEMS INTRODUCES THE PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM
(MultiModemPCS/MultiExpressPCS)

MOUNDS VIEW, MINNESOTA--November 16, 1992--Multi-Tech Systems Inc., a
leading manufacturer of data communications equipment, headquartered in
Mounds View, Minnesota, announces the Personal Communications System, a
hardware/software product that integrates all the communication needs of
the desktop: it combines a full duplex, hands-free speaker phone with
sophisticated fax, data, and voice messaging capabilities. With its
powerful "Show & Tell" feature, one can transmit voice and data
simultaneously over a single analog phone line.

The MultiModemPCS/MultiExpressPCS supports the V.32bis/V.42bis standards
for data communications for effective throughputs of 57.6K bps. It is also
fully compatible with the CCITT's Group 3 standards for fax communication
and complies with the de facto Class 2 standards for fax modem control.
The entire firmware for the MultiModemPCS is stored in flash PROMs which
are field upgradeable. The MultiModemPCS/MultiExpressPCS uses a packet
protocol to control advanced capabilities that integrate telephone
functions, data, fax and voice messaging. The packets can contain commands
responses, data streams or voice streams. A header in each packet uniquely
identifies its contents and its destination. Specifications of this
protocol, called the Multi-Tech Supervisory Protocol(MSP), are available
to independent software developers upon request. In its primitive data/fax
mode MultiModemPCS supports the AT commands.

The MultiExpressPCS software runs under Microsoft Windows, using all the
familiar Windows elements like icons, scroll bars, and Help menus. Used in
conjunction with the PCS hardware, it integrates ALL aspects of desktop
communication:

Telephone: An On-Screen Telephone with options for headset/handset/speaker
phone operation with volume control; features like speed-dial, "Hold",
"Mute", and "Flash" (i.e., call forwarding, call transfer, and three-way
calling) are all accessed from the "Telephone" window.

Voice Mail: Voice messages can be created with the Voice Editor and
broadcast to multiple entries in the "Address Book HS". Incoming voice
messages are date- and time-stamped and are queued for listening over the
modem speaker.

Fax Manager: Any document created under Windows can be "printed" to the
outbound fax queue. Again, each fax can be directed to multiple entries in
the Address Book and can be scheduled for transmission at a convenient
time in the future. Incoming faxes are date- and time-stamped and are
queued for viewing/printing.

MultiMedia Mail: Documents with text and graphics can be annotated with
voice segments and then be broadcast to multiple entries in the address
book. The recipient can view multimedia documents and play back the
annotated voice segments.

Show & Tell: Under Show & Tell, two Personal Communication Systems (PCSs)
can be hooked together to form a full-duplex audio link with a full-duplex
data link. The voice is digitized and compressed using Multi-Tech's
proprietary Vector Quantization algorithm, and multiplexed with the data
packets for transmission over one standard analog phone line.

Address Book: You can create, edit, cut, paste, and search through multiple
address books. The search through an address book is achieved at a fast
rate using the proprietary "Multi-Tech Hyper/Search algorithm

"The Personal Communications System - MultiModemPCS/MultiExpressPCS
provides an efficient way for a professional to manage all of his
communications needs of today and tomorrow. With its integration of voice,
fax and data, including simultaneous voice and data over a normal phone
line, users have a functionality similar to ISDN basic rate services
without waiting for the ISDN. As a matter of fact, our MultiExpressPCS
software with its packet level interface will be the foundation of our
future ISDN products", states Raghu Sharma, president of Multi-Tech
Systems.

The MultiModemPCS/MultiExpressPCS (Model No. MT1U2PCS) will be available
for shipment in March of 1993, priced at $1149.00.
