IOMEGA NOW SHIPPING NEW 3.5-INCH 21MB FLOPTICAL DISK DRIVE

Internal/External Drives for IBM PCs Feature Laser Holographic Optical
Tracking (HOT) Technology

Cupertino, CA -- November 16, 1992 -- The Floptical Technology Association
(FTA) today announced that Iomega Corp., a manufacturer of
high-performance removable mass storage products and an FTA founding
member, is shipping its new 21MB 3.5-inch Floptical disk drive and
subsystems featuring laser Holographic Optical Tracking (HOT) technology.

The second-generation Floptical Insider internal drive for AT-bus systems
and the Floptical PC Powered external drive for IBM PCs and compatibles
are up to three times faster than standard floppy drives, with an average
seek time of 65ms and data transfer rate to and from the media of
1.6Mbits/second.

Like all Floptical drives, the new Iomega Floptical drives can read and
write downward to standard 720KB and 1.44MB 3.5-inch floppy diskettes and
are compatible with all Floptical systems and media introduced by FTA
members. Included with the drives are free SpeedCache Plus software and a
free Iomega 21MB Floptical diskette with shareware. While Iomega has not
published either suggested retail or street prices, it is anticipated that
street prices will start at $349.00.

"The high capacity of Floptical diskettes brings the floppy back into
mainstream use," said Anton Radman, senior vice president of corporate
development and president of Iomega's Floptical development group. "Users
can transport and manage large amounts of data with fewer diskettes. Those
who use Windows and graphics applications will especially appreciate the
Floptical drive's capacity and near-line accessibility -- large project
and file management is much simpler."

Iomega's new Floptical drives with HOT technology use a laser diode as a
light source, plus a hologram rather than only conventional optical
elements. Among the benefits of HOT technology is that the laser diodes
and optical positioning system can follow multiple tracks on the media
simultaneously, making possible a higher signal-to-noise ratio and greater
reliability.

Iomega started shipping its new laser-etched media in October. Iomega's
Floptical drives and media are sold through Iomega's extensive
distribution channels and directly to OEM customers as well.

Iomega's drive manufacturing partner and an FTA member, Chinon Industries
of Japan, is one of the world's largest floppy drive manufacturers,
currently building over 500,000 floppy drives per month.
