Wilson Information System Guide and Documentation

A Comprehensive Source of Information on Wilson Electronic Products and
Services

The H.W. Wilson Company is pleased to announce the publication of Release
#1 of the Wilson Information System Guide and Documentation. The Guide,
which will be shipped automatically to all Wilson Information System
subscribers at no charge, provides detailed information on and support for
the various electronic products and services that comprise the
award-winning System. A total of twenty-six high-quality databases can be
accessed through the Wilson System, which consists of the WILSONDISC
CD-ROM Retrieval System, the WILSONTAPE Database Licensing Service, the
WILSONLINE Online Retrieval System, and WILSEARCH Direct Access Software.

Since its introduction in 1984, the Wilson Information System has steadily
grown into one of the most extensive and comprehensive electronic
retrieval services on the market. This integrated system of services
provides easy, affordable access to some of the world's most widely used
bibliographic databases. Thousands of librarians and their patrons use the
System to access such renowned Wilson databases as the Readers' Guide to
Periodical Literature, Cumulative Book Index, Index to Legal Periodicals,
Humanities Index, Book Review Digest, General Science Index, Applied
Science & Technology Index, and Wilson Business Abstracts.

In order to provide detailed information on a timely basis, the Guide and
Documentation will be released in increments. Release #1, which was
shipped in mid-November, contains database descriptions, a sturdy
three-ring binder to compile all documentation, and binder tabs to
organize the sections. Each section of the Guide and Documentation is
separately coded, paginated, and dated so that it can be updated and
revised easily.

The Guide and Documentation, developed in accordance with MARS
(Machine-Assisted Reference Section) specifications as created by the
Reference and Adult Services Division of the American Library Association,
will include detailed information on each Wilson database, guidelines for
searching in each system, hardware and software requirements, explanations
of all data fields, indexing and abstracting policies, examples of search
strategies, and easy-to-use end-user sheets.

The unique modular design of the Guide and Documentation makes it useful
both as a teaching and user aid, with individual sections that can be
copied and distributed as needed. Subsequent installments of the Guide and
Documentation will include:

* An overview of Wilson products and policies
* Product-specific sections for WILSONDISC, WILSONLINE,
  WILSEARCH, and WILSONTAPE
* Tables summarizing system functions
* A comprehensive index, with cross-references.

The publication of the Wilson Information System Guide and Documentation is
just another example of Wilson's long-standing tradition of providing the
finest in service and support to its customers. In addition to the
comprehensive Guide and Documentation, Wilson Information System
subscribers receive a wide variety of benefits, including generous CD-ROM
networking and remote access policies, the privilege of keeping all
CD-ROMs, a toll-free technical support hotline, and affordable rates.
Wilson's growing network of service and support, like the quality of its
databases, serves as a model for the electronic information industry.
