ENVIRONMENTAL SUPPORT CENTER INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR MACINTOSH COMPUTER
GRANTS

Application Deadline January 15,1993

WASHINGTON, DC - November 3,1992 -- The Environmental Support Center (ESC),
in collaboration with Apple Computer, Inc. will select 150 regional, state
and local organizations working on environmental issues to receive
donations of Macintosh personal computers and printers.

The new cycle of grants was announced today by Jim Abernathy, Executive
Director of ESC, a non-profit organization that provides management and
technical assistance to groups working on environmental issues.

Through this program, Apple will provide 150 fully configured computer
systems along with a cash grant of $20,000 to ESC to help cover costs of
administering the program. ESC will manage the selection and award
process.

This program is the second joint effort by ESC and Apple to distribute
computer equipment to regional, state and local organizations to promote
more effective office administration and program management. In May
1992,100 groups were selected by ESC to receive Apple Computers.

"We are pleased to continue this outreach effort with Apple Computers. The
program was extremely successful and the organizations that received the
equipment have reported stronger financial, database, graphic and word
processing capabilities as a result", said Jim Abernathy. "Our goal is to
support the organizational development of groups making a difference on
environmental issues today".

"Access to personal computer technology can have a major impact on how well
a grassroots group achieves its goals", said Fred Silverman, Apple's
Manager of Community Affairs. "The partnership with ESC helps us to give
powerful tools to environmentalists for strengthening their business and
office management".

Under the ESC/Apple partnership, ESC will select recipients of the
equipment through a competitive application process. Organizations
eligible to receive equipment through this program must be:

-- an environmental organization or an organization with a
significant program on environmental issues whose
   constituency is low-income people or people of color;
-- local, state or regional in scope of operations;
-- 501(c)(3) non-profit status or working through a fiscal
   agent with 501(c)(3) status; and
-- staffed with one full-time equivalent, paid staff person.

Additionally, eligible groups must be organized on a permanent basis rather
than for a task-specific, limited-term project. Individuals, international
or national environmental organizations or their local chapters or
affiliates, and governmental agencies, including tribal governments, are
not eligible. Organizations that received a computer through the previous
ESC/Apple collaboration are also ineligible. Deadline for receipt of
applications is January 15, 1993. Applications can be requested in writing
from:

                Environmental Support Center
                1875 Connecticut Avenue, NW
                Suite 340
                Washington, DC 20009
or by calling: (301) 230-2004, ext. 2775.

The Environmental Support Center, founded in 1990, is a national non-profit
organization that supports the organizational development needs of
regional, state and local organizations working on environmental issues.
ESC subsidizes training and technical assistance to boost organizational
capabilities in fund raising efforts, communications and non-profit
management. ESC also promotes solicitation of funds in the workplace
through the creation of environmental federations and fosters cooperation
among U.S. environmental organizations.

Apple Computer, through its Community Affairs Department, has donated
computer technology to a wide range of non-profit groups for more than 10
years. The partnership with ESC is one of several major grants programs
that Apple is sponsoring to support a range of environmental issues.
