INTEGRITY CHECKING FOR FOXPRO, DBASE IV COMPATIBLE .DBF FILES

BOISE, ID, November 16, 1992 -- Extended Systems today announced the
release of Version 2.0 of EnforceBase, a data-integrity tool targeted at
the managers of multi-user databases. This new release adds support for
FoxPro and dBASE IV file formats, a new Browse/Fix feature, more flexible
report printing and enhanced referential integrity capabilities to
EnforceBase Version 1.1. Now managers of existing FoxPro, dBASE IV, dBASE
III+ and Clipper compatible databases can have integrity checking, similar
to database management systems, without going to the trouble or expense of
changing platforms. EnforceBase Version 1.1 supported dBASE III+ and
Clipper compatible .DBF files and has been shipping since July 1992.

Convenient Data Error Correction

The Browse/Fix window is a new feature which allows users to easily correct
violating records from within the menu-driven EnforceBase Rule Manager.
After EnforceBase locates logical violations in a database, users can
invoke this record-level editor to help them fix the violations.
Violations and their adjacent records are displayed to assist users in
deciding what action should be taken to correct the violation. This
Browse/Fix feature enables database managers to locate and correct logical
problems with a single pass through a database.

Integrity Maintenance Tool

EnforceBase ensures that the data in the database is logically correct,
giving database managers a higher level of confidence in the information
they provide to decision-makers. Database managers now have a proactive
method of ensuring the accuracy of their data. Instead of reacting to
system crashes and other agonizing or expensive consequences, EnforceBase
allows the database manager to discover logical data errors before they
cause problems.

This time-saving tool eliminates the need for programmers to create
integrity-checking programs which are used once and then deleted. It also
eliminates the need for database managers to spend time checking for
errors using interactive dot-prompt queries.

As a logical extension of the dBASE language, EnforceBase is easy for
database managers to use. EnforceBase utilizes familiar Xbase-like command
syntax and can locate and report violating records automatically.

Checks for a Wide Range of Data Errors

Entity Integrity ensures that fields requiring unique values do not contain
duplicates. Domain Integrity ensures that field values are within a
specific range, or set of values. Referential Integrity ensures that
foreign-key or "parent/child" relationships between multiple files are
valid. In addition to these standard SQL integrity categories, EnforceBase
supports Business Rule Integrity which allows users to define custom rules
which apply only to their business situation.

Two User Interfaces

The menu-driven EnforceBase Rule Manager guides the user through the
creation and enforcement of the set of rules that should govern a
particular database system. These rules are stored in a data dictionary.
The Enforce Utility is a command-line interface which allows users to
enforce rules in a batch method. Users can enforce rules previously
defined in a data dictionary, or single ad-hoc rules for quick integrity
checks. The Enforce Utility can also be configured to run unattended.

EnforceBase Version 2.0, part number ESI-8586A is priced at $395, and will
begin shipping November 16, 1992.

Extended Systems product families focus on enabling users to increase the
