Applied Engineering Announces Cellular Interface for the PowerBook

Dallas, TX (October 19, 1992)-Applied Engineering announced today the
Axcell Cellular Interface, the newest member of its "AErport" product
family. Axcell is a communications device that enhances the portability
of Apple Computer Inc.'s Macintosh PowerBook.

Open up the world of personal mobile communications by adding cellular
capabilities to your existing PowerBook's modem. Axcell will enable
users of today's and future generation PowerBooks to connect their
existing modem to portable, transportable and mobile cellular phones
through a standard phone cord.

"Typical PowerBook users are in need of immediate information," says
Robert J. Carroll, CEO and President of Applied Engineering. "Linking
the portability of the PowerBook with the immediate convenience of
cellular communications gives users a substantial advantage over their
business competitors."

Designed for portability, the Axcell unit weighs just 3.5 ounces with the
9 volt battery installed and is roughly one inch wide by four inches
long. A small LED on the face of the unit gives users continuous
feedback on the battery's power condition. Axcell retails for $299 and
includes the cellular phone cable, standard phone cable and 9 volt
battery.

When used with Applied Engineering's new Datalink PB modem, the PowerBook
becomes a complete mobile personal communications system. The DataLink
PB modem couples the performance of high speed (14,400) data and
send/receive FAX capability, with two-way voice support enabling users,
for the first time, to implement voice messaging on a portable machine.
The Datalink PB retails for $619; the Axcell and DataLink PB will sell
together for only $849.

Applied Engineering's Axcell cellular interface is available through
Ingram, Merisel and Tech Data; through Applied Engineering's 2,800
dealers, mail order or the CompUSA and Computer City super stores.
