SYBASE ANNOUNCES EXPANDED SUPPORT FOR OS/2 2.0

EMERYVILLE, CA, November 6, 1992 -- Sybase, Inc., a leading vendor of
client/server-based relational database management systems (RDBMS) for
on-line, enterprise-wide applications, today announced that it is
expanding its support for the IBM OS/2 operating system, OS/2 2.0, with
SYBASE Net-Gateway and SYBASE Open Server. These products will enhance
Sybase's OS/2 product offering which already includes the popular
Microsoft SQL Server -- the SYBASE SQL Server for OS/2.

"We congratulate IBM on its shipment of over one million copies of OS/2
2.0," said Stewart Schuster, vice president of marketing at Sybase, "Our
Net-Gateway and Open Server products deliver the seamless network
independence that facilitates transparent communication of OS/2 2.0
clients and servers with the full range of enterprise-wide computing
environments, including mainframes."

The SYBASE Net-Gateway for OS/2

SYBASE Net-Gateway for OS/2 is a specialized server that maps and routes
client application calls to CICS transactions. It supports multiple,
simultaneous connections from LANs to the IBM mainframe, allowing full
integration of LANs with the mainframe. Supported networks include:
SPX/IPX, LAN Manager and TCP/IP. Net-Gateway for OS/2 also provides strong
operational, administration, and security tools, and interfaces to MVS
mainframe security packages. This enables the controlled management of
distributed resources critical to large scale integration with mainframe
applications.

The SYBASE Open Server for OS/2

SYBASE Open Server for OS/2 is a multi-threaded, 32-bit server application
toolkit that integrates heterogeneous data sources and services into a
cohesive client/server environment. The Open Server for OS/2 toolkit
supports multiple PC LAN networks, provides UNIX-class performance and
throughput, and simplifies application development.

The Open Server for OS/2 product enhances and simplifies SYBASE's data
integration capabilities, enabling a new class of applications that can
combine such diverse data sources as non-relational databases, real-time
data feeds, and application services. Server initiated event notification
automatically informs registered clients about real-time events, such as
changes in stock prices.

SYBASE SQL Server

SYBASE SQL Server is based on an advanced multi-threaded, database
operating system architecture. SYBASE SQL Server is the only RDBMS with
enterprise-capacity performance, server-enforced integrity, high
application availability, and on-line distributed DBMS capabilities. It is
designed to deliver scalable high performance on the most cost-effective
hardware, maintaining high transaction and query throughput while
supporting large numbers of users.
