HUMMINGBIRD FIRST WITH VIRTUAL DESKTOP FOR PC X SERVERS
Hummingbird introduces innovative screen management techniques

Markham, Ontario, October 26 -- At Interop '92 Hummingbird Communications
Ltd. will be exhibiting their latest releases of PC X server software.
Initial shipments of Rel. 3.2 started in October, 1992.

Hummingbird is the only PC X server vendor shipping products that provide
full X11 R5 implementation, including support for the font server,
scalable fonts and XDMCP security features.

Release 3.2 of Hummingbird's MS-DOS programs - HCL-eXeeed Plus and HiRes
includes:

New Functionality for Hummingbird's Local Window Manager - hwm

Virtual Desktop: Hummingbird's Motif-like local window manager "hwm" has
been enhanced to include a Virtual Desktop feature. The Virtual Desktop
lets users make use of a virtual screen much larger than the actual
display. It provides a complete picture of the location of all clients
that are running, both on and off-screen. The size of this Virtual Desktop
can be up to 32K x 32K.

Using the mouse, users can instantly identify windows, move windows on or
off-screen, and select which pan of the virtual screen will appear on the
monitor.

"Many PC X server users do not have the luxury of a 19" monitor", says Jan
Adamek, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for Hummingbird. "Being able
to navigate between multiple windows on a smaller monitor with great ease
increases the ser acceptance of our products".

Click or Point to focus: In order to make hwm more Motif-like, this local
window manager now supports two focus policies - click to focus and point
to focus.

REXEC and RSH Startup: hwm now supports the starting of remote clients via
Rexec and Rsh.

Control Panel

Control Panel is a "pop up" local client that gives the user information
and updates on resources utilized and allows startup of other local
clients. Control Panel can be set to automatically update, at pre-defined
time intervals, resources such as DOS memory usage, high memory usage,
network utilization display, number of local and remote client sessions,
and number of connected font servers.

Control Panel is a full client and can be moved around the screen and
iconified, if desired.

Hummingbird's HCL-eXceed/W Release 3.2 server software for MS-Windows 3.1
has also been enhanced to include:

Network and Performance Tuning

Network tuning allows users to tune the servers to the operational
characteristics of the network transport and adapter. This will result in
optimum performance for the hardware and TCP/IP currently installed.

X Software Development Kit for MS-Windows

With the addition of Xlib, Xt intrinsics, Xaw and Xmu libraries to the
HCL-eXceed/W software, users can now develop and run X applications on a
PC under X Windows. This development was at the request of existing users
and has opened up many new opportunities for PC in the X Window
environment. Network traffic can be reduced while engineers are developing
X clients locally. Programmers can test an X program on the PC before
compiling it on a host machine. Users can even develop clients at home!

These enhancements continue to strengthen Hummingbird's position as the
leading PC X server supplier. According to The X Business Group of
Fremont, California, the leading X market research firm, Hummingbird's
market share has grown from 29% in 1991 to 35% as of July, 1992. The PC X
server market is also growing at a phenomenal rate and in 1992 is
projected to grow 300% over 1991.

Hummingbird's family of MS-DOS and MS-Windows-based PC X server products
are sold in some 38 countries by more than 75 accredited resellers.
