Multi-Tech Announces X.25 Switch

MOUNDS VIEW, MINNESOTA -- November 16, 1992 -- Multi-Tech Systems Inc., a
leading manufacturer of data communications equipment headquartered in
Mounds View, Minnesota, announces an X.25 network switch for connecting
users over X.25 Public and Private Data Networks. The new MultiX25 Switch
supports a total of nine synchronous composite link connections for
attaching X.25 PADs locally or remotely using modems, DSUs or other WAN
devices. The new MultiX25 Switch will be available for shipments in March,
1993, and is priced at $1699.

"The new X.25 Switch is a natural companion product to our X.25 PAD,"
states Raghu Sharma, President of Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "Just as our
PAD's menus and set-up screens make connection to an X.25 network easy,
our new X.25 Switch makes expanding a company's own network just as
simple. By using Multi-Tech's X.25 PAD and Switches, a user can create
sophisticated networks without having to master complex X.28 and X.29
commands for configuration. Such networks are also a natural for
connecting users to LANs via remote-control processors such as those in
our MultiArray product. And for central site control of the network and
remote troubleshooting, we've included an internal command modem as part
of every unit. When Multi-Tech's X.25 PADs and Switches are teamed-up,
administrators can provide a very cost-effective way to connect multiple
sites with multiple terminal and PC users to each other and to host or LAN
resources."

With a combination of Multi-Tech X.25 PADs and Switches, you can have up to
64 async devices accessing an X.25 PDN or build your own small to
medium-sized private network. These products fill the niche for
organizations that need more than basic access to the X.25 PDN. The Switch
allows for connection of up to nine links or PADs via eight RS232
interfaces at 19.2K bps and one V.35 interface at up to 64K bps.

Both devices are compliant with the CCITT 1984 recommendations for X.25
networks. They support X.121 or CUD subaddressing and X.29 commands for
configuration of remote devices. The PAD also supports X.28 commands and
X.3 parameters, auto call, local calls between channels, inactivity timer
and auto X.29 commands on call accept. Both support call request options
such as reverse charging, fast select, flow control negotiation,
throughput class negotiation, closed user groups, network user identity
and more. They also support Q, M and D bits, and any combination of SVCs
and PVCs. The Switch can have a maximum of 256 simultaneous virtual
circuits.

Configuration of both devices is simplified by user friendly,
password-protected menu screens and predefined setups for custom
applications. The PAD has pre-defined setups for terminal concentrator, a
front-end to a host computer or as a statistical multiplexer. The Switch
has a default setup for concentrating PADs which are setup as terminal
concentrators or statistical multiplexers, allowing use of a Switch as a
64-channel PAD concentrator or a 64-channel statistical multiplexer. There
is a floating command port on all async channels for the PAD. Both the
devices can be configured remotely through an internal 2400/1200/300 baud
modem or through the X.25 network with the same user-friendly screens.
