Multi-Tech Introduces the MiniArray Turn-Key Data and Fax Gateway for
Novell LANs

MOUNDS VIEW, MINNESOTA -- November 16, 1992 -- Multi-Tech Systems Inc., a
leading manufacturer of data communications equipment headquartered in
Mounds View, Minnesota, announces the MiniArray data/fax gateway for
NetWare. The new product provides everything (excluding modems) needed for
an eight-modem gateway that will send and receive both asynchronous data
and fax. The MiniArray comes bundled with MultiComAsyncGateway2 control
software, MultiExpress datacomm software and MultiExpress Fax Server
software licensed for an unlimited number of LAN PCs accessing the
gateway. Depending on the model, the MiniArray comes preconfigured and
equipped with a Single Board Computer (SBC), an eight-port Intelligent
Serial Interface (ISI) card and the proper network interface card (NIC)
for either Ethernet or Arcnet Novell LANs. The MiniArray is priced at
$3999 for NIC-equipped models and $3899 for a generic MiniArray without a
NIC. The generic MiniArray can be used with any user supplied NIC and will
operate with IPX or 100% compatible NetBIOS LANs.

"The new MiniArray tower is an eight-port 'turn-key' gateway, complete with
all the hardware (except modems) and software you need for dial-up
communications to and from your LAN," states Raghu Sharma, President of
Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "The only installation needed is to attach the
modems, insert the installation disk, and turn power on. The MiniArray
will automatically boot-up as an eight modem gateway that is ready to use.
When equipped with Multi-Tech's fax capable MultiModems, it functions as a
very cost-effective send/receive data/fax gateway."

The MiniArray comes in a stand-alone tower cabinet containing a 1.44 MB
floppy disk drive, a three slot ISA-bus backplane, and power supply. The
backplane contains a 386SX Single Board Computer (SBC), an eight port
serial card (Multi-Tech's own Intelligent Serial Interface -ISI-with
octopus cable) and an optional network interface card (NIC) for the type
of LAN being used (e.g., 10BASET Ethernet, twisted pair Arcnet, etc.).
Five different models of the MiniArray are available (four come bundled
with NICs for various LAN topologies and one model without a NIC). The
Intel-based 386SX-16 MHz SBC has expandable memory to 16 MB, and includes
two serial ports, one parallel port, a floppy and hard disk controller,
and a VGA controller providing 800 x 600 pixel density in a 16-color
format.

The MiniArray comes bundled with MultiComAsyncGateway2 software which
provides modem sharing on LANs using either the IPX/SPX or NetBIOS
protocol. Gateway features include dynamic dial-in and dial-out operation,
MCSI (interrupt 6B and 14) software redirection support, Multi-Tech
hardware redirection support, remote console and operational statistics
reporting.

Site-licensed versions of MultiExpress data communications and MultiExpress
Fax Server software is included with each MiniArray. MultiExpress
communications software provides popular file transfer protocols and
terminal emulations, plus a powerful script language for dial-out, dial-in
and remote-control operations. MultiExpress Fax Server gives users two
ways to send and receive fax documents. As a network fax program, users
can select a modem via the gateway and send or receive faxes as if the
modem were directly attached to the PC. Faxes can also be sent or received
using the "server" option which reserves a modem on the MiniArray for fax
and centralizes all fax traffic.

Multi-Tech Systems was founded in 1970 to manufacture data communications
equipment and systems for a global market of network products users. The
Minnesota-based company is a well-known leader in dial-up modem
technology. The family of Multi-Tech products includes a complete line of
1200, 2400, 4800 9600, and 14.4K bps data/fax modems, statistical
multiplexors, DSU/CSUs, 5250, 3780 and 3270 emulation systems, X.25 PADs,
computer fax equipment, communications software, UNIX multiport serial
