MATSUSHITA NOW MARKETING 21MB FLOPTICAL DISK DRIVES TO OEMs IN JAPAN

Effort Brings Floptical Technology Closer To Worldwide Industry
Standardization

Cupertino, CA -- November 16, 1992--The Floptical Technology Association
today announced that Matsushita-Kotobuki Electronics Industries, Ltd.,
Kagawa, Japan, is now shipping evaluation quantities of 3.5-inch 21MB
Floptical disk drives to Japanese OEMs through its parent company,
Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., (MEI), Osaka, Japan. The drives
are manufactured by MKE, Insite Peripheral's Floptical drive manufacturing
partner. Insite is the originator and developer of Floptical technology.

"With volume quantities of Floptical technology products now available in
the U.S., we are developing the Japanese market for Floptical drives,"
said S. Nishimoto, MKE's corporate director. "Japanese OEMs, like their
American counterparts, recognize the value added to PCs, Macs and
workstations by Floptical products, which can be a major differentiator to
users who look for more than low prices."

An FTA spokesman noted, "As Matsushita is one of the largest companies in
the world, their endorsement is very significant to our effort to become
the next industry standard for the very high capacity floppy disk drive
market.

The drives now being shipped to Japan's computer manufacturers are downward
read/write compatible with 720KB and 1.44MB diskettes. Under development
is another version of the disk drive which is also compatible with 1.2MB
(1.6MB unformatted) diskettes commonly used by Japanese OEMs. Sample
quantities of these drives are scheduled for shipment in Q2 1993. MEI's
International Industrial Sales Division has the responsibility for
marketing the drives, promoting Floptical technology and penetrating the
Japanese OEM market.

MKE, a founding member of the Floptical Technology Association and Insite's
manufacturing partner, has marketing rights for Japan. MKE also jointly
participated with Insite in Floptical product design and is currently
manufacturing Floptical drives in volume exclusively for Insite.

MKE, part of the Matsushita Group, is headquartered in Takamatsu City,
Kagawa prefecture, Japan. MKE is highly-regarded as a world-class
manufacturer of electronics and computer peripheral equipment, including
DAT data storage drives and hard disk drives, as well as millions of video
cassette recorders annually for leading brand suppliers.

The Floptical Technology Association is located at 22710 Stevens Creek
