NEW NISC DISC - AVAILABLE
SUMMER 1992
FISH & FISHERIES WORLDWIDE

Baltimore - National Information Services Corporation (NISC) is pleased to
publish the largest and most comprehensive CD-ROM which specifically
addresses the world's literature on fish and fisheries. This distinguished
collection of bibliographic databases from around the world features
citations and abstracts on fish and related literature -- an essential
NISC DISC for serious research by scientists and students alike in the
disciplines of aquaculture, ichthyology, and fisheries. Fish & Fisheries
Worldwide provides access to over 135,000 bibliographic citations on fish
and fish-related topics. The major reference tool combines the database
equivalent of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's print publication
Fisheries Review with the esteemed FISHLIT database from the JLB Smith
Institute of Ichthyology at Rhodes University in South Africa, as well as
the entire AQUACULTURE file produced by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA), and FISH HEALTH NEWS abstracts plus more from the
U.S. National Fisheries Research Center at Leetown, WV.

Thorough coverage of thousands of journal articles, books, monographs,
pamphlets, conference proceedings, symposia, government reports, theses,
dissertations, and scientific periodicals, as well as many non-traditional
sources which existing commercial databases seldom tap, are instantly
available at your fingertips. By combining these four major databases, the
gaps which may exist in one bibliographic database have been greatly
reduced and in most cases eliminated by the other files. There is
extensive keyword indexing to offer flexible subject searches. Taxonomic
and geographic identifiers are extremely well done. Searches can be
performed on all databases simultaneously, individually, or in groups
specified by the user. You may query by species or geographic identifiers
which span the globe on a broad, regional basis or narrow your search to a
specific locality.

Fisheries Review (1971-present) is compiled by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife
Service and currently contains over 76,000 bibliographic citations.

FISHLIT (1985-present), produced by the JLB Smith Institute of Ichthyology
at Rhodes Univ. in South Africa, contains approximately 30,000 records of
worldwide coverage drawn from over 1,000 fish-related journals. Each
reference is keyword-indexed in great detail using the Aquatic Sciences &
Fisheries Thesaurus (Fagetti et al, 1986). FISHLIT covers tropical areas,
Africa, and developing countries particularly well and it is intended to
provide comprehensive coverage of all African freshwater fish. Some
coverage dates back to the 1800s!

AQUACULTURE (1970-1984) database from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) provides over 10,000 citations on marine,
freshwater, and brackish organisms.

FISH HEALTH NEWS (1978-1985) is equivalent to the publication produced by
the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Technical Information Services. This
database has not been available for access until now. Fish health
references published after 1985 are included in the Fisheries Review
database. In addition, NISC is preparing to automate the LIST OF
PUBLICATIONS produced by the National Fisheries Research Center - Leetown,
West Virginia from 1972-Present as well as other valuable materials on
fish diseases and farming.
