ASG BEGINS COOPERATIVE R & D PROJECT WITH U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY

SAN FRANCISCO, CA.--October 19, 1992. ASG, the leading developer of
integrated software applications for architects, engineers, contractors,
and facility managers who use AutoCAD, has signed a Cooperative Research
and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Department of Energy to
integrate energy analysis with CAD.

The Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest Laboratories (PNL) is working
with the University of Oregon's Energy Efficient Industrialized Housing
(EEIH) group on a project known as Advanced Energy Design and Operation
Technology (AEDOT). ASG will join the project to develop an energy
analysis module that integrates with ASG's integrated CAD product line.
ASG will then market this application under its own name.

The CRADA will promote the Department of Energy's objective to increase the
energy efficiency of the nation's building stock. By integrating energy
capabilities with popular ASG AutoCAD applications, this project will make
energy-efficient design capabilities readily available, in an easy-to-use
form, to a broader population of designers than ever before.

The joint project focuses specifically on integrating energy analysis
capabilities with CAD to encourage the use of such analysis in the design
process. The resulting program modules, integrated with ASG Architectural,
and the rest of the ASG product line, will minimize the data entry
required for energy analysis. The end result is an integrated environment,
of which energy analysis is a part--a key objective of the AEDOT and EEIH
projects.

The integration of energy analysis with design will make it easy for
designers to perform the analysis as part of the design process. For
example, after the designer draws a house with AutoCAD and ASG
applications, the new energy analysis module will allow the house's energy
efficiency to be determined from within AutoCAD. Based on this analysis,
design changes can be made, and the cycle repeated until the optimum
energy-efficient design is achieved.

Pacific Northwest Laboratories is part of the Battelle Memorial Institute,
a major national laboratory. Battelle and PNL perform research year-round
on the development of energy analysis tools and the promotion of
energy-efficient design. The University of Oregon is known for its
leadership in researching the area of energy-efficient design.

ASG is an original Autodesk Strategic Developer of software applications
for architects, engineers, contractors, and facility managers who use
AutoCAD. The product line now features 14 fully integrated architectural,
structural, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, piping, P&ID, civil engineering,
and modeling/ rendering/animation software applications for the personal
computer. ASG's Vertex Division, the leading developer of electronic
information, applications, and software interfaces for building product
manufacturers, counts among its clients Du Pont, 3M, Pella Corp., Boise
Cascade Co., Allied-Signal, Inc., and Fry Reglet Corp. The Vertex Division
has developed interfaces with the software systems of Simpson Strong-Tie
Co., Inc., Timberline Software Corp., and other AEC industry leaders.
