Apple Computers and LaserWriter Printers rank highest in J.D. Power and
Associates Business User Satisfaction Studies

Apple tops PC satisfaction index second straight year

CAMPBELL, California--October 29, 1992--Apple personal computers and the
Apple LaserWriter printers received the highest marks in overall customer
satisfaction by business users, according to two new J.D. Power and
Associates surveys. The PC and laser printer surveys, both released this
month, reveal that Apple Computer, Inc. leads both satisfaction indices
with ratings of 124 and 126, respectively, compared with an industry
average of 100 in each survey.

The PC study surveyed 2,255 personal computer users at 1,145 business sites
across the U.S. Users were asked to grade their personal computer on five
essential factors: ease of use, computer storage capacity, speed of
operation, quietness and repair service.

The laser printer study surveyed 810 business users across the U.S. Users
graded their laser printers on five essential factors: ease of use, output
quality, performance, reliability and ease of operation.

"As users become more experienced, they have greater expectations from
their PC's and printers," said Bob Puette, president, Apple USA. "It's
Apple's goal to provide our customers with Macintosh computers and
printers that are affordable, easy to use and easy to connect to other
computing systems. These awards exemplify that commitment."

In the PC study, users attributed 45% of their overall satisfaction to the
ease of use of a personal computer. Seven areas make up the ease of use
category including ease of: set up, connecting peripherals, learning how
to use, learning without documentation, understanding information and
finding information.
