U.S. ROBOTICS ANNOUNCES
SHARED ACCESS MODEM SHARING KIT VERSION 1.5

SKOKIE, Ill., -- October 12, 1992 -- U.S. Robotics, Inc., today announced
Modem Sharing Kit Version 1.5 (MSK 1.5). SharedAccess Modem Sharing Kits
allow for the pooling of modems on the LAN so that any user can dial out
and access remote host computers, bulletin boards and information services
such as Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw and CompuServe. In addition, remote users can
dial in to the LAN through the shared modems to run applications and
transfer files. LAN managers using SharedAccess Modem Sharing Kits will
save money by sharing one or two modems for all the users on the LAN
instead of buying a modem and phone line for every desktop workstation.

With MSK 1.5, users get added flexibility through a new "PCs Available"
menu that enables them to choose which PC they want to control at the time
of connection. With earlier versions, only a single PC could act as host
with a dedicated connection.

The newly enhanced MSK 1.5 upgrade contains the innovative Host PC Pooling
feature allowing up to 20 PCs on the LAN to be accessed as the host PC at
any one time. "The 'PCs Available' menu makes MSK 1.5 ideal for both large
and small corporations because we've made it easy for every dial-in user
to remotely take control of their own PC," said Gordon Reichard, product
manager - systems products. "As soon as remote users connect to the LAN,
they see a list of PCs from which to choose. Select the PC, hit enter, and
you're in control of that PC. It couldn't be simpler. Now the Modem
Sharing Kit supports every person on the LAN."

Modem Sharing Kit Version 1.5 consists of one or two V.32bis modems,
cabling, On-the-LAN communications software for dialing out of the LAN,
modem sharing software for resource sharing, Off-Site communications
software for remote users to dial in, and easy-to-understand
documentation. The kits are complete, preconfigured solutions requiring
virtually no on-going support by the LAN administrator.

MSK 1.5 software, available in late October, will be included in all Modem
Sharing Kits. A free upgrade will be available to all current Modem
Sharing Kit users. The Shared Access Modem Sharing Kit Single Port lists
for $995; the Dual Port (two modems) lists for $1595. The kits are
available through U.S. Robotics' more than 5,000 computer dealers and
value-added resellers.
