SUNRISE, FLA. (Oct. 13, 1992) -- The data communication industry's first
integrated local area and wide area networking management system is
announced today by Racal-Datacom with the addition of a LAN Performance
Analyzer to the Racal Management System (RMS). This local area network
analysis tool joins Racal's wide area networking system performance
analyzer, giving Racal users a complete package of integrated local and
wide area networking including analysis capabilities.

"Racal-Datacom now has the broadest range of managed networking devices in
the data communications industry," said Ed Daly, senior vice president of
engineering. "The LAN Performance Analyzer rounds out the performance
tools in the Racal Management System for integrated LAN/WAN networks. With
this tool it is possible to observe the performance of distributed
client/server-based LAN segments as a system. This makes networks more
efficient by troubleshooting for LAN problems that would disrupt business
and the analyzer helps make configuration decisions to improve
effectiveness."

Through its windowing capability, the Racal Management System provides the
ability to monitor traffic flow, analyze protocols, set alarm thresholds,
view network usage statistics, perform auto-baselining, and troubleshoot
problems using an on-line menu-driven network information base. The
integrated system provides powerful network analysis using the Remote
Network Monitoring Management Information Base (RMON MIB), a Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP) MIB for remote network monitoring,
characterization and analysis.

RMS is the network management component of RSA (Racal Strategic
Architecture). RSA assures that Racal products worldwide interoperate
under common network management and are supported by comprehensive
services necessary to compete in today's business climate. RSA gives users
a technologically sound migration path to support their investment.

Racal-Datacom enhances and integrates the ProTools, Inc. Network Control
Series into the Racal Management System. In 1992, LAN Times and InfoWorld
honored ProTools' Network Control Series by giving lt the highest overall
ranking in network and protocol analysis categories, respectively, in
head-to-head comparisons with other leading vendors.

"Racal enhances that front-running LAN analysis package by integrating it
with our full range of network management capability in the overall Racal
Management System." Daly said. "The new LAN Performance Analyzer (LPA)
Manager and LAN Performance Analyzer Agent will complement the
Racal-Datacom WAN Performance Analyzer to provide a complete LAN/WAN
solution for performance management."

The LAN Performance Analyzer can be used in the planning, optimization.
maintenance, and repair of today's local and enterprise-wide computer
networks. Fully programmable through its icon-driven graphical user
interface, LPA provides extensibility. customization, and scalability to
grow with users as the network grows. Beyond network diagnostics and
protocol analysis, LPA can be used proactively for network monitoring,
characterization, analysis, simulation and forecasting.

The LPA Agent is a monitoring and analysis tool for each network segment
and the LPA Manager is a central console that manages up to 256 LPA
Agents.

The LPA Agent can be used alone to identify potential LAN problems or lt
can interface with the LPA Manager to allow a central administrator to
view and troubleshoot any individual LAN on the network.

LPA Manager incorporates the functions of LPA Agent and allows powerful,
in-depth analysis and management capabilities, such as statistical
analysis, network characterization, simulation, auto-baselining, protocol
analysis and visual mapping of the network.

"The integration of ProTools' Network Control Series analysis tools with
Racal's wide area network performance analyzer offers customers an
integrated LAN/WAN network management strategy," said Fred Haase,
Racal-Datacom vice president for network management. "The Racal Management
System continues to provide innovative network management solutions to
positively impact the user's business."

The LPA Manager, when combined with other modules from the Racal Management
System. such as the WAN Performance Analyzer and the Network Control Unit.
runs on a 486 personal computer using the OS/2 operating system.

The LPA Manager component list price is $10,995 with both Token Ring and
Ethernet capability. The LPA Agent software costs $1,450 for each remote
segment, either Token Ring or Ethernet version. Both are available now.

The WAN Performance Analyzer (formerly called SPAN/2). is a wide area
network performance analysis system that can aid in optimizing the data
network by collecting response time information and utilization data at a
line, cluster, device or transaction level. The WAN Performance Analyzer
can monitor traffic flow, isolate response time problems, store
statistical data for trending and analyze historical data to fine tune and
balance the network load. Its pricing starts at $5,000.

Racal-Datacom is the global union of 15 individual companies with
representation in more than 80 nations. The company is a leading
independent provider of data communications products, systems and
services. The firm offers business solutions for the implementation,
management and support of enterprise networks from the desktop through
local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).

Racal-Datacom reported worldwide fiscal year 1992 revenues of more than
$606 million.
