IPSWITCH, INC. ANNOUNCES MERQ,
FIRST NFS CLIENT FOR NOVELL'S LAN WORKPLACE FOR OS/2

(September 28, 1992) -- Reading, MA -- Ipswitch, Inc. today announced the
availability of Merq, the company's NFS client for Novell's LAN WorkPlace
for OS/2. Merq lets OS/2 users, using the familiar OS/2 file system,
access files on networked NFS servers. Merq's availability coincides with
Novell's introduction of a LAN WorkPlace for OS/2 upgrade.

We are pleased that Ipswitch has selected Novell's LAN WorkPlace for OS/2
as a platform for its NFS client product," said Bob Waterman, product line
manager for Novell's Connectivity Products Division. It's clear that
NetWare users will welcome this new capability."

Merq Highlights

Record and File Locking: Merq includes NFS record and file locking which
protects data on an NFS server from being updated by more than one NFS
client at the same time. Record locking is useful for accessing databases,
as it allows multiple people to access the database at the same time, but
only one person at a time to change a given record. File locking is useful
for word processing and other documents. Once one user opens a file with
file locking, other users may not change that file until the first user
exits out of it.

Flexible Authentication: Merq works with any of several NFS host
authentication schemes, including rsh/rexec, Yellow Pages/NIS, PCNFSD
Version 1 and PCNFSD Version 2. Each of these methods is used by some NFS
servers to determine whether a user should have access to the server. By
providing all four methods, Merq lets the system administrator choose
which authentication scheme to use.

Compatible with NetWare: With Merq, OS/2 users can load both NetWare and
NFS at the same time, allocating some drive letters to NetWare (such as
L:, M: and N:) and others to NFS (such as H:, I: and J:). Then users can
switch between NFS and NetWare servers just by changing the current
directory to another drive.

Pricing and Availability

Merq is available now directly from Ipswitch and selected Value Added
Resellers. Priced at $295 for a single user, $1,395 for 10 users and
$8,495 for 100 users, the product runs over Novell's LAN WorkPlace for
OS/2 on OS/2 v1.3 and v2.0.

Ipswitch, Inc. was founded in September of 1991 to develop and market
networking software, including protocol gateway products such as the
Company's flagship product, the Catipult NetWare-TCP/IP gateway which
allows Novell NetWare users to easily access minicomputers, mainframes and
other TCP/IP hosts. Ipswitch also sells Merq, an NFS client for Novell's
LAN WorkPlace for OS/2. The Company's headquarters are located at 580 Main
Street, Reading, MA 01867 and they can be reached at (617) 942-0621.
