Avalon Software Expands Support for Automotive Industry
Manufacturing Software Vendor Opens Detroit office, Appoints Bill Hindelang
Director

Tucson, AZ, August 24,1992--Avalon Software, Inc., a provider of
client/server manufacturing software applications, announced today the
opening of a regional sales and support office for the automotive
industry. Located in Detroit, the office is headed by Bill Hindelang,
Avalon's newly appointed Worldwide Director of Automotive Sales.

Avalon develops and markets CIIM, a new generation of integrated
manufacturing, distribution and financial applications, and FASTCIIM, an
extension of the core product customized for automotive suppliers. Avalon
is demonstrating FASTCIIM at Booth #321, at the Automotive Industry Action
Group's AutoTech Show in Detroit, August 25-27.

Avalon has more than 100 blue chip customers, including several in the
automotive industry: AutoLite (a division of Allied Signal), Korean
Automotive Supply (KASCO), SAAB Scania, TRW Koyo, TRW Vehicle Safety
Systems, and Volkswagen Mexico.

"Avalon is successfully replacing more and more of the automotive
industry's aging information systems," comments Hindelang. 'These older
systems are limited in growth and expansion capabilities because of their
proprietary architecture. Avalon delivers state-of-the-art solutions based
on an open systems architecture, and is a market leader with a proven
track record in automotive applications."

In addition to providing sales and service, Avalon's Detroit office will
develop regional relationships with systems integrators, consulting firms,
and hardware manufacturers to support automotive clients. The new Avalon
Software office is located at 755 West Big Beaver Road, Top of Troy
Building, Suite 132, Troy, MI, 48084. The phone number is 313-244-8550.
The fax number is 313-244-8504.

About CIIM and FASTCIIM

Avalon's CIIM is based on a client/server architecture with support for
popular relational databases and open systems platforms. CIIM currently
operates on two RDBMSs: ORACLE and SYBASE on all major computing
platforms.

FASTCIIM is a vertical manufacturing application designed for automotive,
electronics, and other repetitive environments. It is available on the
ORACLE relational database for all major UNIX platforms. FASTCIIM is the
only software for repetitive manufacturing environments that delivers
4GL/relational database technology, broad computer platform support,
enterprise-wide integration, client/server capabilities, and is developed
and documented using CASE tools. Developed with a consortium of Avalon's
automotive customers, FASTCIIM features extensive AIAG compliant
functionality with EDI interfaces to support rapid customer and supplier
releasing.

Avalon's systems have been successfully used by national and international
automotive sites. Within six months of implementing ClIM, the
Volkswagen/Secorisa subsidiary in Mexico, saved more than one million
dollars by cutting inventory 30%, eliminating production glitches, and
drastically reducing downtime on the assembly line due to supply
problems.

In Lulea, Sweden, SAAB Scania utilizes CIIM for on-line tracking of all
parts in the production chain. CIIM gives the plant a competitive
advantage by allowing the lowest possible inventory levels and enabling
assembly operations to run at maximum performance levels.
