BOSTON -- August 19, 1992 -- Pioneer Software announced today the release
of Q+E Database Editor (Q+E) version 5. This newest release includes a
customizable Icon Bar, Form Designer, interactive Query Builder, and
enhanced reporting capabilities. Q+E version 5 adds support for AS/400,
SQL/DS, and Tandem NonStop SQL. Q+E version 5 will be demonstrated for the
first time at the Windows and OS/2 Conference in Boston in booth 650.

With over 3,000,000 copies distributed since 1988 Q+E is the most widely
used data access tool for Windows and OS/2. Q+E provides an easy,
efficient way to utilize database information stored in most major
database systems. Q+E is the business professional's "Personal Database
Assistant" designed to retrieve, organize and monitor database
information, and then integrate that data unto any other application.

"We are very excited about this release of Q+E," said Richard Holcomb,
President, Pioneer Software. "We've spent the last two years concentrating
on enhancing the core technology behind Q+E. Our success in this area is
demonstrated not only by the large number of databases our products
support, but also by the number of other major vendors who have licensed
our technology. With Q+E version 5, we've concentrated on our customers'
demands for increased functionality and improved user interface features.
Consequently, Q+E version 5 is more powerful, easier to use, and supports
more database systems than any other competitive data access tool."

Support of Windows 3.1

The Q+E interface has been updated to take full advantage of Microsoft
Windows 3.1. Support has been added for drag and drop, Tile and Cascade
Windows, common dialog boxes, context sensitive help, and color text.

Customizable Icon Bar

Q+E version 5 includes a customizable icon bar that enables users to
execute any Q+E command with a single click on an icon. Users can also
create multi-command scripts that can be associated with an icon including
sophisticated queries and reports. Users have the option of redefining
existing actions and legends in Q+E's standard icons or creating and
adding their own icons.

Graphical Form Designer

Q+E version 5 adds a new graphical Form Designer that allows users to
customize forms used to view, input, and edit data. This is a significant
enhancement to the previous fixed format style forms automatically
generated by earlier releases. Now placement of fields, text boxes,
command buttons, and scroll bars can be "painted" and modified on the
screen with a mouse. Q+E's forms have been enhanced to support multiple
panel forms, and display several lines of text in one field. Query by
Example (QBE) capabilities have been added to allow users to type in the
values they want to search for in the appropriate fields of the form.

Interactive Query Builder

Q+E's new Query Builder is a powerful tool that enables users who are not
familiar with SQL to build, modify, and edit virtually any query. The
Query Builder steps users through the creation of queries with
easy-to-use, interactive dialog boxes for every aspect of the SQL
statement. The Query Builder will even provide a list of valid values for
any field. Queries can also be edited and modified in the same easy
fashion. The Query Builder allows entire queries to be defined before the
request is sent to the database reducing the amount of network traffic.
Other query functions added to version 5 include support for Group By and
Having Clauses, and In and Between operators.

Fill-in-the-Blank Queries

Q+E version 5 easily creates "fill-in-the-blank" queries that allow users
to specify the selection criteria for database information each time the
query is executed. When the query is run, a pop-up dialog box appears with
a prompt asking the user to fill-in-the-blank with a value or set of
conditions. For example, a report could be defined as Sales by Region.
Each time the report is run, the user is prompted for the desired region.

Enhanced Reporting Capabilities

Q+E version 5's new reporting features allow users to quickly create simple
business reports. Data can be formatted by category and sub-category
adding aggregates such as totals and subtotals for each group of data.
Blank lines or page breaks can be specified to separate subtotals and
totals. Formatting for numeric and date columns have also been added
allowing users to define format strings for displaying data. Reports can
be printed with headers and footers including bitmaps and text in any
font. Pre-defined fields such as page number, date and time are also
supported.

Even More Databases

Q+E supports more databases than any other Windows or OS/2 data access
tool. Q+E version 5 adds support for AS/400, SQL/DS, and Tandem NonStop
SQL. Other databases supported include: DB2 via Micro Decisionware's
Gateway, INGRES, Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, Netware SQL, OS/2 DBM, XDB,
SQLBase, Paradox, Btrieve, dBASE, ASCII text file and XLS files.

Pricing and Availability

Q+E's suggested retail price is $299. Pioneer Software's registered users
can upgrade for $79. Excel users who have the special Q+E for Excel
product that comes bundled with Excel 3.0 and 4.0 may upgrade to Q+E
version 5 for $99. Q+E version 5 is scheduled to ship September 30, 1992.
