(Fort Lee, NJ, June 23) -- James A. Cannavino. vice president and general
manager of Personal Systems for IBM Corporation will explore, "The
Expanding Universe of UNIX," when he delivers the UNIX EXPO keynote
address on Tuesday, September 22, at 1 p.m. UNIX EXPO will take place
September 22-24, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.

Mr. Cannavino will outline the importance of the UNIX environment in
offering users new hardware products, and more robust, easier-to-use
software, and the increasing role of UNIX in mission-critical
applications.

Two plenary sessions will also affirm the show's position as the industry's
premier forum for UNIX and Open Systems technology. John Black, system
architect of U.S. West's NewVector Group (USWNVG), will describe his
telecommunications company's experience with "Integrating UNIX Into the
Glass House," in the plenary address on Wednesday, September 23, at l 1
a.m.

The Thursday plenary will explore new cooperative efforts between the two
houses of UNIX, at 11 a.m. Roel Pieper, president of UNIX Systems
Laboratories (USL) and David Tory, president and CEO of the Open Software
Foundation (OSF), will meet the press as Mike Azzara, editor of Oven
Systems Today and David Flack, editor-in-chief of UnixWorld, explore the
significance of this cooperative effort for the UNIX and Open Systems
user.

Don Berey, show manager for UNIX EXPO said the cumulative goal of these
special programs, is to provide UNIX EXPO attendees with a conference
program that will deliver an unprecedented level of information and
insight.

will provide a real-world view of the current state of UNIX and Open
Systems for both corporate users and trade resellers."

Mr. Cannavino has worldwide responsibility for IBM's desktop systems and
their operating systems software.

assuming his current post in 1989, Mr. Cannavino was president of the Entry
Systems Division and has held various staff and management positions since
joining IBM in 1963.

Mr. Black has more than 25 years of experience in the computer industry,
and his position at the USWNVG provides exposure to the largest Oracle
Client/Server site in the world, which is pioneering co-existence of MVS
mainframes with UNIX.

Mr. Piper joined USL, a subsidiary of AT&T in 1990 as executive vice
president, sales and marketing, and was promoted to president and CEO in
1991, overseeing the development, marketing and licensing of UNIX System V
operating system and related products.

Mr. Tory joined OSF in 1988, after holding senior management positions with
Computer Associates, Inc. He has..30. years of experience in software
development, technical support and marketing with previous positions in
the U.S., U.K., Europe and Japan.
