LEXINGTON, Ky., July 23, 1992 . . . A new IBM printer connectivity product
for Novell network operating systems, enabling faster network printing,
was announced today by Lexmark International Inc.

Lexmark, a former division of IBM, develops and manufactures IBM personal
printers under license from IBM.

Introduced today were three new NetWare-compatible models of the IBM 4033
LAN Connection -- an external printer adapter that allows the IBM 4029
LaserPrinter and other PC-printers and/or plotters to operate in a
personal computer local area network (LAN).

Additionally, Lexmark announced that existing 4033 models compatible with
OS/2 and AIX network operating systems were enhanced to include OS/2 LAN
Server and Microsoft LAN Manager compatibility.

All 4033 models support Token Ring or Ethernet protocols -- the standard
connections between networked personal computers.

Network Printing Made Faster

The IBM LAN Connection features built-in LAN data transfer capabilities to
pull off print data from the network and send them to a printer at
relatively faster speeds than conventional network printing. The network
printing process results in even faster throughput when the IBM LAN
Connection is used with the IBM 4029 LaserPrinter's high speed, Fastbytes
parallel interface which can transfer data at up to 150 kilobytes per
second.

"Lexmark recognizes the growing significance of connectivity in the printer
marketplace and the demand for a fast, flexible network printing
solution," said Dr. Paul J. Curlander, Lexmark's general manager
responsible for worldwide development of printer and peripheral products.

"With the new Novell versions of the 4033, along with our OS/2 LAN Server
and LAN Man upgrades to existing models, we are now able to deliver a
total network printing solution that is compatible with an even greater
majority of current and future PC networks than ever before in the IBM
computer environment," Dr. Curlander added.

Since the IBM LAN Connection is a relatively small external box, it has the
flexibility to be freely located on the network which can result in
significant customer savings by eliminating the need for a dedicated PC as
a print server. Also, the 4033's graphical user interface, or GUI,
software utility can help save time by allowing network administrators to
more easily configure and maintain one or more printer adapters on the
network.

Price and Availability

The IBM LAN Connection, ranging in list prices from $695 to $945, is
available now through the Lexmark and IBM authorized dealer network
nationwide, and through IBM and Lexmark direct.

Lexmark International Inc., created in 1991, is an independent worldwide
company that develops, manufactures and markets IBM personal printers, IBM
typewriters, related supplies and keyboards.
