MOUNDS VIEW, MINNESOTA--June 8,1992 -- Multi-Tech Systems Inc., a leading
manufacturer of data communications equipment headquartered in Mounds
View, Minnesota, announces the new Internal MultiModems (models MT932BC,
MT1432BC, and MT1432ES) for IBM PC and PS/2 compatible computers. The
MT932BC provides V32 datacomm operation with V.42 error correction,
V.42bis data compression, and Group 3 fax hardware. It is designed for the
PC-ISA bus architecture, and sells for $899. The MT1432xx models provide
the same features as the MT932BC, with the addition of V.32bis support for
14.4K bps data transmissions. Model MT1432BC is for PC-ISA bus computers;
the MT1432ES, for the MCA-bus architecture. Both V.32bis modems sell for
$999. All models are bundled with MultiExpress datacomm software and
MultiExpressFax facsimile software. The MT932BC will ship July 20,1992,
the MT1432BC will ship June 17,1992, and the MT1432ES will ship August 15,
1992.

"Internal modems provide the simple, clean, and unseen approach to adding
data communications to a PC. Simple because everything you need is
included in one box. Clean because you don't need messy extras such as a
serial interface card, modem cable and power cable, and unseen because
everything is inside your computer. But, our new internal modems also
provide some compelling technological reasons for choosing them over
external modems," claims Multi-Tech President, Raghu Sharma. "First of
all, we've equipped these newly announced internal modems with 16550A
UARTs that include a builtin data buffer (16 bytes long). The 16550A UART
removes much of the risk for data loss that can happen when the serial
port of a PC can't keep up with the data flow."

"We've also equipped the new internal MultiModems with the option of
expanded addressing (100 to 3F8 hex) and interrupt (vectors 2, 3, 4, S,
and 7) allocation. With external modems you are limited to COM1, 2, 3 or
4, which have standard addressing and shared interrupt values. If your PC
has a number of serial devices or add-on cards, such as a printer, mouse,
or expansion card, you can experience conflicts. With our new internal
MultiModems, you can avoid potential conflicts with your other serial
devices by selecting unique I/O address and interrupt values."

"We've also equipped these modems with Group 3, Class 2 fax hardware and
our new MultiExpressFax facsimile software. With the increasing popularity
of fax communications in business, the ability to fax directly from PC
applications is adding another dimension to personal productivity."

The MT1432xx modems provide V.32bis asynchronous operation over dial-up
networks. They are also downward compatible with other modems that operate
at 9600 (V32), 2400 (V.22bis), 1200 (V.22/Bell 212A), and 300 bps
(V.21/Bell 103). The MT932BC is the same, excluding V.32bis operation.
They all provide V.42 error correction for 100% error-free transmissions
and V.42bis data compression, yielding "4-to-1 " compression for
throughputs up to 57.6K bps with V.32bis modulation and 38.4K bps with
V.32 modulation (depending on file content). UUCP spoofing using
Multi-Tech's own adaptive protocol enhancing speeds up batch file
transfers within UNIX environments using the g protocol. Fax transmissions
are at 9600/4800 bps and allow the internal MultiModems to send or receive
faxes with any Group 3 or Group 2 fax machine, fax card or fax/data modem
in the world. The internal MultiModems use industry standard "AT" commands
for modem configuration and dialing and have a built-in dialing directory
for storing up to 10 phone numbers. They have two RJ11 modular phone jacks
for connection to the phone line and support for a telephone set.

Multi-Tech Systems was founded in 1970 to manufacture data communications
