Welcome to Entangled Minds, the first major Vanic release. I will guide
you through the many amazing features it employs, and I will tell you what you
might attempt if you have problems running the music disc.

For running Entangled Minds, you do not really need the high end machine
you have purchased for Quake. The program runs on a 486-DX 66 with 8MB (my
configuration :( ), as long as your video card supports VESA 1.2 or above.
Oh, yes, you need a sound card as well, because the PC speaker code was too
buggy to be released. :) Due to the fact that Amoon is a member of the
MikMod developers team, having ported the MikMod sound system to DirectX, we
have used it for the playing routines. Currently supported sound cards are
SB, SB16, GUS and ESS.

To get the music disc started, you have to change to the directory where
the .EXE-file and all eight song files are stored. Then, simply type EMINDS
and wait (by the way, the time you will be spending here is directly related to
your processor speed!). If you, running the program, experience once more the
inadequacy of your machine, because Entangled Minds runs far too slow, or your
video card does not support Hi-Color modes, try adding the /8 command line
switch... Then your sorrows are being taken care of.

Now, you will face the Incredible Vanic Music Disc GUI (tm). The first
thing you will admire is the amazing plasma to the right. Feel free to take
pictures, but stay in groups.

The fortunate entities who call a CD player their possession will recognize
some of the buttons just below the title logo: There we have a Play button, a
Stop button, a Rewind button, a Fast Forward button, a Previous Track button
and a Next Track button. You may scream that you are missing the Pause button,
but we have of course thought of that, too: If you have pressed the Play
button, something will start playing. And now, just press the Play button
_again_, and then, yes, then the player will pause. And if you have returned
from the telephone/toilet/etc., you will press the Play button once more for
more music!

These were the easy buttons. Now we will advance to more sophisticated
elements.

Just below the plasma there is a list of all songs you can listen to in
Entangled Minds. Simply use the mouse cursor to select one of them (by the
way, the mouse cursor is not as heavy as it does look like!).

There are two buttons with diamonds: The left selects the Play-One-Mode,
in which only one (the selected) song is played. The right switches to
Play-All-Mode. The _whole_ music disc will be played in this mode, without any
need for interaction by you, dear user!

After this real difficult buttons, I will explain you two more simple
features: You have wondered what the '+'-button and the '-'-button will do,
have you? You will want to kiss us if I tell you that you can modify the
playing volume with this buttons! Amazing, isn't it? _That's_ an intuitive
user interface!

Maybe you will just love one of the songs, so you will want to have it
being played over and over. Of course we have thought of this as well: We
have included a Loop button just for that purpose! It is the one with the
funny circle on it. The one right to it returns to Play-Once-Mode. But what
are you supposed to do if you love the _whole_ music disc? I will give you a
real Entangled Minds-Power user hint: Switch to Loop mode _and_ to
Play-All-Mode, and here you are!

Are you still reading? Good, because you will receive some real
interesting features within the next few bytes. The button labeled "Song" will
show the song information for the currently played song; "Credits" will tell
you who is responsible for this great piece of software. Do not miss "Greets",
for even _you_ may find yourself being greeted here! Under "Session" we have
prepared some enlightening inside informations about our Session 5 group
meeting, during which Entangled Minds was created. The last button, "Exit", is
only for debugging uses - you will never need it...

For all those of us who cannot be corrupted by Billy-Boy and who still
think that the keyboard is the only input device (like me), we have included
the possibility to access all features of Entangled Minds by keystrokes. Here
is a complete list:

        Play/Pause: Enter Stop: Space
FF: Cursor left Rew: Cursor right
Next Song: End Prev Song: Home
Play One: Insert Play All: Delete
        Loop: / Play One: *
Incr. Volume: + Decr. Volume: -
        Song Infos: F1 Credits: F2
        Greets: F3 Session Infos: F4
        Exit: Quit

Text scrolling: Cursor up, Cursor down
Fast text scrolling: Page up, Page down

Direct access to the songs: 1-8

Now we will shift to the troubleshooting section. During testing we have
realized that Entangled Minds is a very, very sensitive program. It does run
unter Winbooze 95 (but not on all computers) and with QEMM (but not on all
computers) :( . It _should_ work with both configuration, but if you experience
the symptoms we all hate (a black screen, for example), I would recommend
booting without any extended memory manager, and, of course, without Windows!
We managed to get the program working on various computers, ranging from a
486DX-66 with 8MB RAM with a GUS over a P100 with 16MB with a SB AWE to a
P266 (dual P133 board) with 64MB RAM with a GUS, so there is still hope for
you!

Well, I am afraid I am too tired to write much more, my sense of humor is
worn out and my head keeps falling on the keyboard, so I should better finish
this documentation. Time get into bed, I think. I know, I am lame, it is only
4:40am, but... Listen to Entangled Minds, I will have a cup of sleep...

Ok, I am still awake (after a huge cup of coffee instead). I wanted to
add that we of course can be found in the once fabled institution called
'Internet'. Our homepage can be found at
http://www.fh-giessen.de/~hg7485/vanic, maintained by our PR manager jZip.
There you will find links to our members' homepages and email addresses for
contacting us.

If you should really encounter a bug, which is an error in the program
code, which causes the program to behave in an unexpected and completely
unwished way, you would do us a great favour in telling us what you have
discovered, so we can remove it. Just send an email to Solaris
dennis.bark@mni.fh-giessen.de, our customers service line.

    Telperion

PS. Ah, the coffee did his duty. He finished this file, but due to the fact
that another hour passed by we all hear our beds calling...
    have fun...

The last letters are QMs (nearly everytime):
I have ever been against a product, investing energy only 'for the eyes',
useless, which nobody cares for. Next time Vanic will do somemore useful.
I'll work on it!
