1)  What is ACID2000

ACID2000 is an Advanced CallerID detector, voice manager and telephone
answering machine for voice modems. It's 32-bit application which
can stay in system tray handling incoming voice calls.
ACID2000 is compatible with two CallerID schemes: Bellcore (American,
used in many countries, including USA, Canada, Australia and so on;
also called ICLID) and Russian CallerID (RCID, TYPE II CallerID scheme
with information received after going off-hook).

As an answering machine the program can record messages and play them back
through modem, handset or sound card. It can also monitor conversation,
feeding sound card in real time.

2)  System requirements

 - Windows NT (recommended) or Windows 2000, Windows 95 OSR2 or Windows 98.
 - MS Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher is expected for context-help.
 - CPU: Pentium or higher recommended, but not required.
 - Voice modem: see below for list of compatible modems. (ACID2000 does NOT
   use TAPI; it makes it work under NT and takes less memory; however, not
   all modems are compatible).

3)  Compatible modems

These modems were tested with ACID2000
 - All U.S.Robotics (3COM) Voice modems, including Sportster brand
   (28.8, 33,6 and 56k);
 - Limited support (CallerID only, NO telephone answering machine)
   for U.S.Robotics (3COM) Courier modems;
 - Rockwell-compatible modems (including, but not limited to, Rockwell-based
   ACORP modems, Rockwell-based ZyXEL modems, Hayes and some other);
 - Texas Instruments-based modems (i.e., ACORP 56k Voice TI);
 - GVC modems;
 - Multitech voice modems;
 - ZyXEL voice modems;
 - Cirrus Logic;
 - IS-101, Windows modems (including, but not limited to, Rockwell, Lucent (AT&T),
   Cirrus Logic, Creative (through WinModem Rockwell) and IS-101);
 - IDC modems.

4)  Installation procedure

If you are upgrading from ACID2000 1.7 BETA or any prior release, please delete
previous release from your computer before installing this one. Otherwise
you will get some duplicated files remained in ACID2000 folder.

To install, create target directory (i.e., C:\Program Files\acid2000), unpack
corresponding .zip archive, run setup.exe and follow standard installation
procedure.

After files are installed and you run the program for the first time, you will
be prompted for COM port number, modem name (or chipset manufacturer)
and type of CallerID you will use (American CID is general option; for Russia,
select Russian CID).

5)  Un-installation procedure

To uninstall, exit the program and run 'Uninstall' from the Windows Start menu.
After than you may need to manually remove wave files you recorded from Inbox
subfolder.

6)  Online documentation available

Further information and documentation about the program is in aon32.chm file,
which is MS Compressed HTML file. If you cannot start this file, you probably
don't have MS Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher. In that case you should either
install Internet Explorer or download special help file version for non-IE
browsers (it will use Java applet to display itself). In the second case
there will not be any context help available - only documentation in HTML
files.

7)  Shareware notice and pricing

The program is Shareware. This means that you can evaluate the program for
period of 30 days, after which you should either register (visit ACID2000
home page; registration fee is $25) or uninstall the program. It will not
cease functionality on expiration of evaluation period - that is your
responsibility to register. Instead the program does not allow you to hide
'Control Deck' window on startup - if you want the program to go in tray,
you have to close this window by hand. There is no such a limitation in
registered version.

8)  Distribution

The program is freely distributable unless it is not modified in any way,
all files are preserved and you do not distribute your registration license.

9)  Registering
