Version 1.9a & 2.0
==================

	I've bought the new version of Delphi, so from now on will produce a version in both
16 bit and 32 bit forms. You need Win 95 to run the latter. I will try to keep the
alternatives identical except for a few very minor items. The 32 bit version I'll only put on
my web site (see below), so if you have the 16 bit version another download is needed.

	32 bit versions will be called DBSCH32.EXE and have a version number 2.0 or above.
The 16 bit version will continue to be DBSCHESS.EXE and have a version number 1.9 something,
e.g. 1.9a.

	The data file are totally compatible between the 2 versions, I suggest that if you
install DBSCH32 you simply put it into the normal \DBSCHESS folder.

	The Help | About display will tell you which version you are running (or you can deduce
it from the style of e.f. File | Open). These versions are more or less the 1.9a alpha in what
they do functionally.

	The Library will need to be Created again (but what is produced can be read by either
version).

	On returning to the analysis display, the left-hand (move) column is shown.

	The F12 / Move details window now has a Cancel box in case you wish to exit without
changes (thanks Andrew H - and also for the next 2 items).

	The *? button will only give you an error message 'You are already at a variation
position' if you use it when analysing a variation position.

	The tab order on F11 and F12 have had some minor changes to make them more logical.

	Bug cured in import from clipboard.

	Shift/F2 (or using the new entry in the right button popup) opens a file with a
number embedded in the filename one greater than the current one. E.g. if you have been looking
at Test99z, then Shift/F2 will try to open Test100z; 100Fred will try 101Fred similarly.

	Today's date appears as a ghostly image at the end of the menu. I never know which day
it is!

	There are some minor features missing from the 32 bit version. These are because they
are no longer applicable, or because I haven't yet found out how to recode them or (in the case
of *.BAK files) as there appears to be a bug in the new file handling Delphi library.

Version 1.9b & 2.0b
===================

	No version 2.0a in an effort to keep the version numbers aligned for a bit between the
Win16 & 32 versions.

	I seem to have carefully commented out some code necessary for Import | Clipboard. I
foolishly took the advice of the new compiler that a statement wasn't doing anything - but it's
back in again now. Apologies for any trouble caused.

	In the Win 32 version there was a problem with the Edit | Load bitmaps, this should also
now be OK.

	In F12 (Move edit) display, the day chosen now rotates between Yesterday, Today &
Tomorrow - hopefully in a convenient manner.

	The print of board in figurine fonts is oriented as per the screen viewpoint (instead
of always from the White side).

	Reorganisation of the Edit | Copy to Clipboard option. It is now grouped into 3 areas
and an HTML option added for registered users. The latter constructs a *.HTM file from the
current game - this is a good starting point for constructing a version suitable for viewing by
Navigator (or other browsers I believe) although obviously you would have to edit in any
diagrams and chop out unwanted comments and variations. There is also an option to produce
code to call an applet, this bit of Java is not yet finalised (watch my homepage<G>).

Version 1.9c & 2.0c
===================

	Hopefully I have finally solved the print problem - my opinion of Delphi is less than it
was! It wasn't my fault - honestly. You should now not need to use the File | Print Setup.

	File | Search operation need not be repeated for second & subsequent jumps to a relevant
game. The list of "hits" is still there when you return to it. Thanks Uli.

	Checkmates are no longer flagged during the import of a collection of PGN games. Again,
thanks Uli.

	A limit of 150 variation moves is imposed for the shareware version.

	The flag settings for Edit | Copy to Clipboard are recorded for the next loading of the
program.

	A Text editor is now included (Edit | Text editor) - but only in the 2.0c version for
registered users. I like it enough to produce this file using it - and also the homepage<G>.
It is similar to "Notepad", but with some differences ...

1)  No Print facility.
2) Find includes a Replace option as well.
3) Limit on the file size is 32k, but find/replace operations are slow on large files.

	A new File | Import option allows you to set up a position from the clipboard if
it holds it in FEN notation. It then proceeds as a normal Create. En passant possibilities
are ignored, but castling and player to move information is noted if the extended FEN is
presented.

	There is new version of the German help file (deutsch.hlp).

==================================

	There is an example of the use of the program to record variations - Alekhine's Defence.
As it is a large file I won't include it in the issued version of the program each time, it's
on the homepage.

==================================

	Alan Cowderoy has provided a freeware chess font - We've done a TRA file for
using it in DBSCHESS. The font & the TRA can be downloaded via my homepage -
follow the links in the "Download the program" page. See also Annex J of the
manual.

==================================

	Any comments welcome, please tell me of any problems (they won't go away otherwise<g>).
If you want some more example games in DBS format, you can get them from my homepage (see
below).

	Don't forget, I'll happily send registered users a new version of the manual in
Word 2, 6 or 97 and/or RTF format whenever your old one is getting a bit out of date!
The one you get is liable to describe features in the next version that I have already
implemented.

     All the best - David
