Welcome to PBBrowser Version 6.0 (beta)...

If you are using Notepad to read this file, turning on Word Wrap will make things easier to read!

PBBrowser is a read-only supplemental browser for the PowerBuilder development environment (Windows). PBBrowser looks like a Smalltalk browser, and significantly enhances the PowerBuilder development during Object Oriented development.

Installation:

PBBrowser 6.0 is configurable to use either OLE automation or ORCA to access your application PBL's. Depending on your preferences, PBBrowser 6.0 requires either:
The PB5 or PB6 runtimes if OLE automation is selected, or
The PB4 or PB5 or PB6 development environment and the ORCA DLL

To Install

1 To install, just unzip (using PKUNZIP Version 2.04g or equivalent) into some target directory, then drag the executable (PBBR6E32.EXE for instance) into an appropriate Start Menu folder or the Desktop. This will set the "start in directory" so the .INI file will be found.

2 The INI file and the CFG file (for registered users) must be in the same directory as the PBBrowser EXE file. While this provides only minimal copy protection... at least it offers some!

3 Double click on the PBBrowser icon to start the application.

4 Next, use the Preferences dialog to create an App Path for PBBrowser, and (optionally) register the OLE automation server to access your PBL's, you must register the OLE automation server.

Just select the PB tab within the Preferences dialog, and press the Registry Update button.

After this step is complete, shutdown and restart PBBrowser.

5 The program is distributed to come up in "Select PBL" mode. You will be initially see the list of applications available within the PB.INI file.

If for some reason the PBBrowser INI file is not present, select Preferences/Layout choose "default" and press "Layout Panes". This will size and position the Panes so that PBBrowser is usable.

Upgrading from PBBrowser Version 5.1

1 Download PBBrowser Version 6.0.

2 Copy the configuration file "PBBr5E32.CFG" into the directory where you installed PBBrowser 6.0, and rename it "PBBr6E32.CFG". There are essentially no file name conflicts, so you can use one directory.

3 CornerStone licensees who have installed PBBrowser, please review the following: Financial Dynamics is no longer shipping PBBrowser with CornerStone. As a result, only CornerStone licensees that I have been paid for will receive a free upgrade to PBBrowser Version 6.0. Please EMail me at mniemann@oowidgets.com with your name, company name, and CornerStone license number(s). If I have received a royalty for your copy of PBBrowser, I will EMail you a new registration key.

Keep on PowerBuilding... Mike Niemann, PBBrowser Author
