[pd-reminder] SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:

[pd-reminder] provides documentation about the program in two file formats:

1) A Windows 3.x Write file
2) A Microsoft Word (v6.0) file

If you are using Windows 95/NT, it is recommended that during the installation of [pd-reminder], you select the option to install the Microsoft Word version of the documentation. You may then use the Microsoft Word Viewer utility obtained from the Internet (or Microsoft Word) to print out, view, and conduct electronic searches on the file.

If you:

1) are using Windows 3.x;
2) have Microsoft Word (v6.0) or the Microsoft Word Viewer utility obtained from the Internet;

it is also recommended that you select the option to install the Microsoft Word version of the documentation during the installation of [pd-reminder], and use MS Word to view the file.

If you are using Windows 3.x and do not have MS Word (v6.0), it is recommended that you select the option to install the Windows Write version of the documentation during the installation of [pd-reminder].

Note that if you select to use the Windows 3.x Write version of the documentation, two files will appear in [pd-reminder]'s (REMINDER) directory: "instrtna.wri" and "instrtnb.wri". For some computers, the formatting for the "Contents" section found at the beginning of the file "instrtna.wri" will appear correct. In other computers, it will not. Likewise, for some computers, the formatting for the "Contents" section found at the beginning of the file "instrtnb.wri" will appear correct. In other computers, it will not. Note the file in which formatting appears correctly on your computer and delete the other file.

Both Windows Write files and the MS Word file are read only files. If you want to alter the file you are using, you may save it under a new name then make your changes.

As mentioned above, you may use your documentation file to print out a manual; view the file on screen; and conduct electronic searches.

Using the documentation file to conduct electronic searches is a very powerful feature. If for instance you want to look up information on how to use [pd-reminder]'s file "Secure" feature, you may use the "find" tool for the word processor you are using to search for the word "Secure" until you find what you are looking for.

(Note for Windows Write and MS Word for Windows word processors, the "find" tool may be invoked by: entering the word processor; selecting the "Edit" menu; then selecting the "Find..." menu command.)

READING CHAPTER 1 OF INSTRUCTIONS

It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you read Chapter 1 of the instructions. These six pages take you through some very basic and important steps such as setting your user name and password, and creating and displaying an example message. Reading and following the directions in Chapter 1 makes your use of [pd-reminder] a lot easier.

DOCUMENTATION "Contents" SECTION

PCs come in various configurations and use various printer drivers. Because of this, it is very difficult to ensure that on every computer, all sections of the instructions listed in the "Contents" section (pages 2-4) of the instructions are actually on the pages indicated in the ("Contents") section. For instance, though the "Contents" section has the section "5.1 General" of the instructions to be on page 42 of your manual, because of your computer, it may actually be on page 43. To correct this situation you may do the following:

1) Go to the File Manager.

2) Locate the instruction file you are using (instrtna.wri/instrtnb.wri/instrtns.doc) in the "REMINDER" directory. (By default the "REMINDER" directory is "c:\reminder".)

3) Double click on the instruction file. This should invoke Windows Write/MS Word with the instruction file displayed in the word processor.

4) Select the "File" menu then select the "Save As..." menu command. Save the file under a new file name by typing in a file name other than the file's current name, and selecting the "OK" command button (in the resulting dialog).

5) If you are using a "Windows Write" version of the documentation, you may do the following:

a) Select the "File" menu then select the "Repaginate..." menu command. This results in the dialog titled "Repaginate Document" appearing.

b) Check the check box "Confirm Page Breaks" in the dialog. Then select the command button "OK".

The above action will result in two dialog boxes titled "Repaginating Document" appearing repeatedly. For the dialog box with the command button "Confirm" as one of its command buttons, select the command button "Confirm" each time the dialog box appears. For the dialog box with the command button "Keep" as one of its command buttons, select the command button "Keep" each time the dialog box appears. Do these actions until the dialog boxes no longer appear.

Note, to determine on what page you are in the Write document, place the closest "new page marker" (the ">>" symbol found on the left of the page) at the top or beyond the top (scrolled off) of the screen, then refer to the page number displayed in the bottom left hand portion of the Write word processor window.

6) For each section of the instructions, compare the page number indicated in the "Contents" section where the section should be, with the page the section is actually located. If there is a discrepancy between the page numbers, change the number in the "Contents" section to match the actual page the section is located in the document.

7) Save the document by selecting the "File" menu then the "Save" menu command.

"NEW USER" PASSWORD

[pd-reminder] becomes installed with a default user's name: New User. The password to gain access to this user's message files is "new". To delete the users name, you may do the following:

1) From [pd-reminder]'s main form, select the "Settings" menu then select the "User Password/Personal Information..." menu command.

2) In the resulting dialog, select the user's name "New User" in the drop down list box (underneath the command button "Add Name To List").

3) Select the command button "Edit Settings..." and select the command button "Yes" in the resulting message box titled "Actions May Result In Denied File Access".

4) Type "new" in the "Enter Password:" text box in the resulting dialog titled "[message/edit settings access]", then select the "OK" command button.

5) With "New User" still showing in the drop down listbox, select the command button "Delete Name From List".

6) Select the command button "OK" to exit the "[user password/personal info settings]" dialog to the main form.
