Do you ever have a need
to open a HTML file that resides on your hard drive but
don't want to fire up your Web browser just to look at
it? Or perhaps you are a Webmaster writing your own HTML
and need a handy utility to view and edit your pages? Offsite
Explorer will help. Offsite Explorer
is a program that we wrote for our own use as a Webmaster
but thought the world might find it useful too! As a Webmaster of the Softword Technology shareware site, we are constantly tweaking and modifying the hundreds of HTML pages that make up this site. Our favorite HTML editor is Frontpage 97 by Microsoft, and we highly recommend it. However, one problem with Frontpage 97 is that it is HUGE, and takes quite some time to load up. It sure is frustrating to wait 25 seconds waiting for Web editor to load if all you want to do is correct a misspelled word on a HTML page. Granted, you could use Notepad (or our great Another Notepad), but then you still don't know what the final result will look like since Notepad is just a text editor. Having to fire up your Web browser is also a chore just to view one page. Into the picture steps Offsite Explorer! For starters, Offsite Explorer does NOT connect you to the Internet. What Offsite Explorer does is allow you to open and view and edit your HTML files on your PC . . . and does it QUICKLY! Offsite Explorer does not have all the overhead that Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer, Frontpage 97, etc. has. Offsite Explorer is therefore a great tool to reach for if you want to make some quick corrections to your web pages or just take a peek at them. Those who are familiar with Microsoft's Internet Explorer will immediately see many similarities in appearance between Offsite Explorer and Microsoft's Internet Explorer . . . from the flyover buttons, to the hot keys, and even Intellimouse support! If you click on the Edit button, the HTML code to the current page will be loaded in your favorite editor! Topics: What HTML codes are supported? How to specify a different text editor
When you click on the "Edit" button (or press CTRL+E), Offsite Explorer willl load the currently viewed HTML file into Microsoft's Notepad utility. We will be the first to admit that Microsoft's Notepad is pretty lame when it comes to features. However, it is a freebie, and it is small and loads quickly, and it can be found on every PC installed with Windows. If you would prefer to use a different text editor, you can specify this by adding an entry into the OFFSITE.INI file. Here's an example: [Editor] Run=C:\UTILITY\NEW-EDIT.EXE In the above example, the editor specified on the Run= line will be loaded as the default editor next time you load Offsite Explorer and then click on the Edit button. If you do not have an alternative text editor, and are likewise frustrated with Microsoft's Notepad utility, then may I strongly suggest that you check out our program appropriately titled Another Notepad? You can download a fully functional evaluation copy from our Web site - you will not regret the decision.
