ONLINE MANUAL

The online manual in this archive gives information on how to install and
run the system. It also covers aspects of RSI prevention and effective
treatment.
Please view it via a text viewer. If you bring it into your word
processor, please use a non-proportional font (such as Courier 10pt) to
preserve the formatting when viewing and printing.

INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION:

The "RSI-Manager" system is designed to prevent and effectively treat RSI
(Repetitive Strain Injury), also called OOS (Occupational Overuse
Syndrome) and CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome).

It incorporates many years' research and trials by the world's leading
experts in this field.
It is a Total "Holistic" system. Other products mostly address just one
or two aspects of the causes of RSI (eg wrist-rest, rest-breaks,
keyboards, ergonomics, etc). We have carried out extensive evaluations of
most other systems, and are confident in saying that The RSI-Manager is
the only system that covers ALL aspects in a totally integrated system.

It has also proven very effective in preventing other VDU related
illnesses such as:
  * Eye strain
  * Fatigue
  * Headaches
  * Back pain

The proof is in the results, and The RSI-Manager has consistently
achieved better results in prevention and effective treatment than any
other method!

"PEDIGREE"

The RSI-Manager system is based on the work done by the Occupational
Safety and Health Service, of the New Zealand Department of Labour.

This project brought together many of the world's leading acknowledged
experts in this field, and is based on 7 years development and trials by
these specialists.
The publications resulting from this project are now being accepted
throughout the world as definitive works on the prevention and treatment
of RSI.
The "RSI-Manager" system in this archive incorporates all the features
developed in this project.

Those involved in the system's development and trials are:
- Dr R.D. Wigley, MB, ChB, FRCP, FRACP, FACRM
   practicing occupational physician
- Dr B.L. Blake, MB, ChB, FACOM practicing occupational physician
- Mr F.W. Darby, BSc (Hons), MSc (ergonomics)
scientist specialising in ergonomics, OSH, DOL, NZ
- Mrs R. McInnes, NZ Trade Certification Board, Typing and Shorthand
- Ms P. Harding, Sub-editor, Wellington Newspapers Ltd
- Mr D. Brown, Group Occupational Health Centre, Sydney, Australia

Plus *numerous* other occupational health professionals and international
contributors have, over the years, evaluated the system and provided
valuable feedback and recommendations.

Some publications and regulatory codes resulting from this work (and
which The RSI-Manager incorporates) are:
- "Occupational Overuse Syndrome, Treatment and Rehabilitation:
   A Practitioners' Guide"
- "The Approved Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Visual Display
   Units"
- "Health and Safety in Employment Act, 1992"

The RSI-Manager software/system itself has been trialed extensively over
a 3 year period by many individuals, plus large and small corporations
(references and testimonials available on request). The software has been
"stable" for one year now, and has been responsible for reducing pain in
many workers, and getting many people back to work where other methods
have been unsuccessful.

To sum up: Over a period of some years, many keyboard workers who were
"crippled" with RSI have been got back to work (and fairly quickly)
through using this system. It utilises a gentle "holistic" approach, with
no brutal surgery, splints or drugs required.

What can we say? ... it works.

TESTIMONIAL

"I first contracted RSI in August 1990. I underwent several forms of
treatment which did not result in a cure.
In February 1993 through my new doctor, I discovered The RSI-Manager and
found it was valuable in all important aspects in keeping the RSI at bay.
Since changing jobs recently, I have been unable to use the RSI-Manager
on my current machine as it is an ancient word processor. As a result, I
have had recurrences of RSI.
I am very much looking forward to the day when I will once again be able
to benefit from using the program again.
I feel that the program should be a compulsory part of any computer
system, and feel that this would prevent people from contracting RSI.
I have no hesitation in recommending the RSI-Manager system."

Lynette Birnie, Personal Assistant to the General Manager, Prudential
Life, Christchurch, New Zealand.

This testimonial is very typical of the many we have received.
