Installation and Setup:
------------------------------------------------------------------

To install:

If you obtained Desk Clock in a 'zip' file, then first uncompress
the 'zip' file to a temporary directory. Then, run the SETUP.EXE
program contained from the temporary directory by double clicking
on it from the Windows File Manager. If you use WinZip, you can open
the 'zip' file with WinZip and use the Install function instead.

If you obtained Desk Clock on a Setup disk, mount the setup disk in
your diskette drive and from the Windows Program manager or
Windows '95 Start menu 'Run' option, type a:setup.exe and press enter
(substitute the correct drive letter for your diskette drive).

NOTE: while running setup, you may receive a message that file
DDEML.DLL is in use by another application and cannot be installed.
Just ignore the message since you already have the file installed.

SETUP.EXE installs Desk Clock to your hard disk and places its
program icon in the appropriate Program Manager program group(s).
This is accomplished for you automatically by the setup program, but
you may also wish to include the icon in your Startup group so that
Desk Clock is started automatically every time you start Windows.

The first time you run Desk Clock, you are prompted to enter
your User Name and the log file in which you will define
projects and record project activity. Desk Clock comes with a
log file called 'projects.mdb', which is a Microsoft Access
database. It is compatible with many popular database,
spreadsheet, and report writer programs.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Installing VSHARE.386 or SHARE.EXE
------------------------------------------------------------------

Desk Clock requires either VSHARE.386 or SHARE.EXE for its
MS Access databases. If you get a Sharing Violation error
when attempting to start Desk Clock, you must install either
VSHARE.386 or SHARE.EXE. VSHARE.386 is the preferred method
unless you have an application that is not compatible with it,
in which case you should use the DOS SHARE.EXE program.

Using VSHARE.386:

The preferred method is to use VSHARE.386 in the [386Enh]
section of your Windows SYSTEM.INI file. If you are using Windows
for Workgroups, this should already be present. Windows 3.1 users
can use the VSHARE.386 included with Desk Clock and installed in
your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Edit your Windows SYSTEM.INI file
and include the following line in the [386Enh] section:

device=vshare.386

You must then re-start Windows for the changes to take effect.

Using SHARE.EXE:

If you are unable to use VSHARE.386, use the DOS SHARE.EXE
command instead. The SHARE.EXE program is included with DOS and
should be in your DOS subdirectory. To use it, add the
following line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, before the Windows
startup command:

C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE /L:500 /F:5100

This addition assumes your DOS directory is C:\DOS. If this
is not the case, substitue the correct DOS directory in
the command line. Ensure the SHARE.EXE program is in
your DOS directory. You must then re-boot your system for the
changes to take effect.

------------------------------------------------------------------
A note about fonts, etc.:
------------------------------------------------------------------

Desk Clock requires certain fonts to be installed on your
computer. These fonts are normally part of the standard Windows
installation, but you can easiliy reinstall them if necessary.
Refer to your Windows user manuals for more information about
installing fonts. Following are the fonts required by Desk
Clock:

Arial (True Type)
Arial Bold (True Type)
Courier New (True Type)
Small Fonts (VGA Res) or (8514 Res) depending on your monitor.
MS Sans Serif 8, 10, 12, 14, 18, 24 (VGA Res) or (8514 Res)

If the Desk Clock displays do not appear correctly on your
system, review your list of installed fonts using the Windows
Control Panel / Fonts utility to ensure that the above fonts
are installed. These fonts, if not already installed, can usually
be found in your Windows\System directory. Refer to your WIndows
user manuals for more information about installing fonts.

------------------------------------------------------------------
A note about date/time and amount formats for different countries:
------------------------------------------------------------------

Please refer to the Desk Clock help for important information
regarding the Windows Control panel settings for date/time
formats used in different countries.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Required Files:
------------------------------------------------------------------

indicated directories. The names of the C:\DESKCLOC,
C:\WINDOWS and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories can/may be be
different on your computer.

SETUP EXE N/A
SETUP LST N/A
SETUP1 EXE C:\WINDOWS
SETUPKIT DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

The Setup/Installation files can be removed after Desk Clock
is successfully installed. In addition to the application
files, Desk Clock creates user specific '.ini' and other
temporary files in the C:\DESKCLOC application directory. Note
the dates/times of the system run time files. You may have
different/older versions of these files on your system. If so,
you may wish to copy them to a backup before installing Desk
Clock. If you have newer versions, the installation/setup
program will skip the Desk Clock installation files and use
your copy instead.

To un-install Desk Clock, delete all the files in the
C:\DESKCLOC directory and delete the setup/installation files
in the WINDOWS and WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. The system/runtime
files in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory might be used by other
applications, so it is best to not delete them unless you are
absolutely certain they are not being used. The COMMDLG.DLL
should never be deleted. The other files could be copied to
another directory and deleted. Then, if you find that another
application needs them they could be restored from the backup
directory.
