MVP-KEYS is an on-screen keyboard that allows you to play with your
MIDI toys from the screen. It's main purpose is for auditioning edited
sounds. You must have Microsoft Windows 2.0 or higher installed on your
PC to run this program.

We (Playroom Software) are placing it into the public domain so that
IBM PC and compatible users can see a small example of what can be done
with Microsoft Windows.

This software contains proprietary trade secrets of Playroom Software.
It may not be reverse engineered, decompiled, or disassembled.

We have an ever expanding line of Microsoft Windows based
Editor/Librarians including products supporting:

   Ensoniq ESQ-1, ESQ-M, SQ-80
   Lexicon LXP-1
   Yamaha SPX90, SPX90II

Many others are in the works with several nearly ready for shipment.

MIDIDRV1.EXE

This is an MPU-401 driver that is used by all PlayWare. It should be
placed in your WINDOWS directory or the same directory as MVP-KEYS.EXE.
If you don't have it in the right place, you will get a message asking
you to place a disk in drive A: containing the program. Just choose
Cancel, then move it to the WINDOWS directory. Drivers are currently
available for MPU-401 compatibles and the Yamaha C1. Give us a call if
you need the C1 driver and cannot locate it.

MVP-KEYS.EXE

This is a separate program that our MVP Editor/Librarian programs can
start up and make available to you when you need it. It is an
on-screen keyboard that gives a more visual reference than the right
mouse button note playing feature. We will refer the program simply as
KEYS.

The top line of KEYS is a status and control area. It displays the
currently selected Out port, Channel, Program, Note, Velocity, Pitch
Bend, and Chord. The sides of the keyboard have arrows that let you
change the playable range of the keyboard. Click on the white or black
keys to play notes on the currently selected out port and channel.

The settings for OutPort and Channel are completely independent of any
settings in the MVP editor/librarians. To change the output port,
click in the Out box and a dialog will appear. Any available Out port
can be selected. You can change the MIDI channel in the same manner by
clicking on Ch. If you wish to send a program change to the current
out port on the current channel, click on the Pgm box. A dialog will
appear that lets you enter the Program using the keyboard or using the
slider. Clicking on Ok will send the program change, clicking on
Cancel will abort the program change.

The Note box shows the currently selected note. Unlike the right mouse
button feature, this keyboard is not velocity sensitive. Clicking on
the Vel box will let you set the velocity using a dialog similar to the
Pgm dialog. The PtBend box shows the current pitch bend value in
percentages of the allowable MIDI pitch bend range. To bend a note,
first click on the note and drag the mouse to the right for bending up
and drag it to the left for bending down.

The Chord box allows you to play chords by selecting the root note of
the chord. Clicking on the box will cycle you through the chords that
can be played, until you get back to 'None'.

All MVP programs use the same copy of MVP-KEYS. For this reason, you
probably should put MVP-KEYS.EXE in your WINDOWS directory. If KEYS is
active and you close MVP-ESQ, it will still be active. You can close
it using its system menu Close option, or you can continue to use it.
