GIF Files GIF is the Graphic Interface Format - a standard started by CompuServe that allows easy exchange of graphics among computers of different operating systems (eg: Macs and PCs). It also provides maximum compression for faster transfer and loading times and minimum disk space usage. In fact, archiving these files uses more disk space than not archiving them, so we have not archived them. These are primarily 640x480x256 color GIF files. (Some nature shots are in black and white.) To view the files, you will need a GIF file viewer, such as CompuShow (in GR_TOOLS). The same files in BMP format (for use with Windows 3) are available in the Windows section of PsL.
