          PRELUDE

When marketing my book LETTERS HOME: A WAR MEMOIR,
I have found it difficult to explain with a flyer what
it is. The thought came to me, therefore, to produce
this book on disk. My aims are to let people know the
background of the book and to give them a better idea
of what the book looks like.

While producing LETTERS HOME, I revisited many of
the places I had been during the war, in England and on
the continent. One of the results was articles for
the INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE. Another was a lot of
          pictures.

In addition, I prepared excerpts from the book for
the IVY LEAVES, the quarterly publication of the 4th
          Infantry Division Association.

For the most part, these are the sources from which
this book on disk was drawn.

In Chapter 12, you will find information regarding how
you how you can get a copy of LETTERS HOME, if you are
          interested.

Note: Unless I have indicated otherwise, the articles
you will see appeared in the International Herald Tribune.
I am using here, however, the original texts sent to
Paris, where they were later edited.
