USING AS A MULTI-CLIPBOARD

With Classic Clipboard running, you can copy to the clipboard in the normal way up to nine times. To paste your clips, press Ctrl+1 for the first clip, Ctrl+2 for the second Etc. instead of Ctrl+V, Shift+Ins or selecting paste from your application's Edit menu.

Please note that while pasting with Classic Clipboard's hot keys, the normal type ahead keyboard buffer is not available. To paste the first two clips - hold down the Ctrl key and press 1. Release both keys and wait for the clip to paste before holding down the Ctrl key again and pressing 2.

There are two modes for clearing the multiple clipboard. The default system is that all clips are cleared to make way for the first clip you make after paste operations. In other words, if you copy three times, you can paste the three clips as often as you wish but as soon as you copy again, the first three clips are lost and the new clip becomes the first clip on Ctrl+1. Normally, this is the most useful mode as you know that each series of clips will start on Ctrl+1.

If you need to copy a clip, paste it, copy another and still have the ability to paste them both, you can change to the second mode in User Options. In the second mode, clips are not discarded. They continue to be added to the clipboard until there are nine. After that, new clips are added at Ctrl+9 and the others scroll down the clipboard with the oldest being discarded. In other words, the clipboard always holds the last nine clips.

In either mode you can force the clipboard to clear by pressing Ctrl+0 (Zero).

Choosing clips visually

If you are unsure which hot key a particular clip is on, you can activate the Classic Clipboard window and choose the one you want. You activate Classic Clipboard by typing Ctrl+V or Shift+Ins. You can also activate it with the mouse by clicking on the desktop with the mouse pointer held hard against the edge of the screen ( Top, bottom or sides).

The clips on the clipboard are shown on the top left of the Classic Clipboard window. If the clips are text, the first few words are shown. If not, Classic Clipboard displays "Non text clip". You can paste a clip by clicking on it, by typing the number shown against it or by moving the highlight bar to it and pressing the Enter key.

USING AS A CLIP LIBRARY

To save a clip permanently, you can drag its name from its slot on the clipboard to any empty slot in the Clip Names section. You can also type a text clip directly into Classic Clipboard by right clicking on an empty Clip Names slot.

The text shown in the Clipboard and Clip Names slots is not the clip itself but the clip title. For text clips, Classic Clipboard uses the first few words of the clip as its title. For all non text clips, Classic Clipboard uses the default title "Non text clip". In either case, you can give clips a more meaningful title. To rename a clip, right click on the clip name.

Classic Clipboard can hold up to 3000 clips in high resolution and just over 900 in low resolution.

To name a group, right click on the group slot.

To change groups, click on the group name.

You can re-arrange the position of your groups in the list by dragging their names to a new slot. Dragging with the left mouse button moves the group and dragging with the right mouse button copies the group.

Group 23 - Hot Key Clips - is pre-named and cannot be moved. Any clip saved in the Hot Key Clips group is automatically connected to the hot key associated with its slot and can be pasted with those hot keys at any time. ie, a clip in the first Clip Name slot in the Hot Key group can be pasted by typing Alt+A at any time, regardless of which group is currently displayed in the Classic Clipboard window.

Please note that many applications use Alt+ a letter to drop down sub menus. If you save a clip in the Hot Key group then the clip takes priority over the application menu. In other words, if you put a clip in the Alt+E slot in the Hot Key group then Alt+E will paste that clip - It will not pull down the Edit menu of your word processor.

You can also re-arrange the position of clips within each group by dragging their names to a new slot. Again, dragging with the left mouse button moves the clip and dragging with the right mouse button copies the clip.

To move or copy a clip from one group to another, start to drag the clip, then, while dragging, move the mouse pointer over the name of the group you want to move it to. Classic Clipboard will change to that group and you can then drop the clip in any empty clip name slot. If you are using the high resolution display, you can also drag up to eight clips to the transfer slots - change groups - then drag them to their required positions.

To erase individual clips or entire clip groups, drag the clip or group name back to the clipboard area which turns red with the caption "Drop Here to Erase" during all drag operations.

To paste clips using the mouse - Activate the Classic Clipboard window by clicking on the desktop with the mouse pointer against the edge of the screen then click on the clip name you require.

To paste clips using the keyboard - Activate the Classic Clipboard window by typing either Shift+Ins or Ctrl+V (whichever you have set in user options) then type the letter beside the clip name or use the arrow keys to highlight the clip and press Enter.
