SwordSearcher is a powerful Bible-Study tool for
Windows 95, 98, and NT. Several plug-ins are
available to enhance the usefulness of this tool.
This file explains installation and revision
information, and addresses upgrade considerations and
lists the available plug-in components. Once the
program is installed, please take some time to
browse the online help to get to know how to use
SwordSearcher.

* INSTALLATION

- Self-extracting exe file

If you downloaded a single file installation
executable, all you need to do is run it and follow
the installation prompts. If you are planning to add
any plug- ins, it is recommended that you accept the
default installation folder so that the installations
will run easily.

- Compressed Archive (Zip, ARJ, etc)
If you downloaded a compressed archive file, i.e.
ss9733.zip, you will need to use a program such as
WinZip to decompress the files into a temporary
folder and run setup.exe to start the installation
and follow the prompts. If you are planning to add
any plug-ins, it is recommended that you accept the
default installation folder so that the installations
will run easily.

- SwordSearcher Deluxe CD-ROM
Just insert the CD-ROM and run z:setup.exe, where z
is the letter for your CD- ROM drive. (If your
system has "auto-insert notification" enabled for
your CD- ROM drive, this will run automatically.)
When installing from the CD you will have the option
of choosing a "custom" setup and deciding which
plug-ins to install.

The CD-ROM also has distribution files in the /DISTRO
folder. In /DISTRO/ZIP there are compressed Zip
files, and in /DISTRO/EXE there are self-extracting
installation files. These files can be used to upload
to BBSs and other online file archives. Please do not
alter the contents of the distribution files.

As a bonus, in the /DOS folder, you will find a
non-shareware version (fully licensed) of
SwordSearcher 2.0 for DOS. This may be useful if you
have an old system (such as a 386) which you may wish
to run a Bible-study tool on. This old DOS version
does not have the functionality of the Windows
version nor can you use any plug-ins in it. There is
no installation program for this, see the
INSTALL.TXT file in that folder for installation
instructions.

* UPGRADING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION

- Upgrading from SwordSearcher97 v3.2
If you have version 3.2 installed, just install over
your old setup. All of your personal note sets will
remain intact. You should be able to accept the
default directory. However, if when you installed
v3.2 you did not install to the default folder
(C:\Program Files\SwordSearcher97) you will need to
change to the correct folder for installation.

- Upgrading from SwordSearcher95 v3.0 or v3.1
These versions have database files which are not
compatible with v3.3. The note set files ARE
compatible. To install the upgrade, you should
install to your current folder (which is probably
C:\Program Files\SwordSearcher95) overwriting your
previous installation. You must then remove the
shortcuts to SwordSearcher95 from your system. If you
try to access the old SwordSearcher95, you will cause
a program crash because the database files are not
compatible.

* AVAILABLE PLUG-INS

Below is a list of the available plug-ins as of this
writing. All of these plug- ins are available for
download from the SwordSearcher web page and are
included on the SwordSearcher CD-ROM.

- The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge plug-in note
set. This note set includes verse notes and over
500,000 cross-references.

- The Geneva Bible Footnotes plug-in note set. These
are the footnotes from the Geneva Bible, which the
Pilgrims used.

- Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary plug-in note
set. A popular devotional commentary.

- 1917 Scofield Notes plug-in note set. Footnotes by
Dr. Scofield, 1917 edition. Does not include the
references which were placed in the margins.

- The Treasury of David plug-in note set. This is C.
H. Spurgeon's exhaustive commentary on the Psalms.
Every verse has comment. (Currently only the first
half of the Psalms are available. I do not know when
the second half will be complete.)

- The People's New Testament Commentary plug-in note
set.

- The KJV translators' footnotes plug-in note set.

- Morning and Evening Devotional plug-in. This
devotional by C.H. Spurgeon doubles as a note set
and a daily devotional.

- Stephanus 1550 Greek New Testament plug-in note
set. (Each verse is a note.)

- Scrivener 1894 Greek New Testament plug-in note
set. (Each verse is a note.)

- Easton's Bible Dictionary plug-in. Over 3000
definitions of Bible words, places, people and
phrases.

* REVISION HISTORY

- SwordSearcher v3.3: Added the availability and
support of the Easton's Bible Dictionary plug-in.
Added the back function for the Passage Window. Fixed
various bugs, relating to display, focus, and
printing. Dropped the "97" from the title.

- SwordSearcher97 v3.2: Added Spurgeon's Morning and
Evening devotional. Note set tabs now indicate
whether or not there is a note for the verses in the
verse list and the passage window. The main window
will now restore itself to the last size and
position. The search engine and database has been
improved to facilitate searches for words with
apostrophes. A new option on the Edit|Format
settings has been added which allows the user to
select whether or not brackets should be copied in
clipboard copies.

- SwordSearcher95 v3.1: Corrected bug which caused
the program to generate a fault on shutdown.
Corrected bug which caused some searches to lose all
spacing and fail.

- SwordSearcher95 v3.0: Initial Windows 95 release.

- Versions 1 and 2 were DOS-based utilities.
(Version 1 was called "Bible Assistant.")
