DIRECTRY.TXT: ============ At the request of several sysops, we have added the above named file in the root directory with the full path name and description for every directory on the CD containing programs (i.e.: excluding support directories such as SCREENS, RUNTIMES, etc.). FILES.BBS FILES: =============== Every directory has a FILES.BBS file in it. In addition, the FILESBBS directory has a FILES.BBS file for each directory, renamed to the directory name. For example, the file BUSINESS.BBS in the FILESBBS\DOS directory is the FILES.BBS file for the DOS\BUSINESS directory. When space allows, we will put a combined FILES.BBS file for the entire CD in the root directory. If it is not there, you can easily create your own using the COMB_BBS.BAT file in the FILESBBS directory. To use it, change into the FILESBBS directory and type COMB_BBS followed by the drive, directory and file name to use. For example: COMB_BBS C:\FILESBBS You can create combined FILES.BBS files for selected directories by using the COMBINE.EXE file. See the READ.ME file in the FILESBBS directory. Customized FILES.BBS Files: -------------------------- The FILES.BBS files on the CD contain the complete write-ups for each program, the author's name or company name, ASP affiliation, and the program's registration fee, all arranged in PCBOARD format: FILENAME.EXT --SIZE-- --DATE-- Description---------------------------------- ^1 21^ ^24 | description continued.----------------------- ^32 You can create FILES.BBS files with customized layout and contents using the CD's Windows-based access program. Run SETUP.BAT to install it, then run PSL_NEWS\PSL_SHRW.EXE, select the FILE menu and MAKE FILES.BBS on the menu. Using MAKE FILES.BBS: -------------------- Note: This feature only works for directories on the PsL Monthly CD-ROM. When the MAKE FILES.BBS window comes up, you will see two sets of list boxes for selecting drive, directory, and files. The set on the left is for selecting the files to put into the FILES.BBS file(s). The set on the right is for selecting where to put the completed FILES.BBS file. At the bottom of the window, you can specify how the FILES.BBS file(s) should be layed out and what information to include. For example, you may choose to insert only the first line of the description rather than the whole description in order to make the files smaller. Note: We always make the first line of the description describe what the program does. For example, we would never start a description with something like "This is a program that everyone can use." So if you select first-line only, you can be assured of getting actual program descriptions such as: "converts PCX files to BMP format". The rest of the description would go on to give features of the program. Next, on the right side of the window, select the destination directory and whether to append the FILES.BBS listing for a directory to another file or to create a new one. On the left side of the window, select the directory to read. In the middle box, you can select which level of permission you have for distributing the files. NOTE: If you select a directory to read and the "All Dirs." box on the right is checked, the program will read all the directories on the same level as the selected one. When more than one directory is selected, if "New File" is checked, each directory's listing will be put in a file with a name of the directory and the extension of ".BBS". If you are doing All Dirs, you do not have to click the Select button, but if you are doing one directory, either manually select the files to be included or click on Select to select all which come within the permission level you have specified. When all options have been set to your satisfaction, click on Create. REGISTER YOUR BBS WITH PSL: ========================== "PSL" is a registered trademark of Nelson Ford and PsL.
